Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

I’m EOI-ing and nothing is holding me back

18 yrs with the company and truthfully it’s been disappointing. Misleading career opportunities and unfulfilled promises. I’m a PSG 20, yes you read that right, I’ve only received 2 promotions my entire career. My last promo being 6 yrs ago because I threaten my then current boss of resignation. Last year I informed my current boss that I needed a promo, their response, not this year but maybe next year (2025). Well you guessed it another year and another reason for no promo. I’m taking this opportunity to find another employer.

If you EOI, it can be refused and then they know you want to leave or are willing to. Of course if you want to leave anyway you don’t really have anything to lose. 18 years and only psg 20 seems odd. Now if you are an admin you may not get much more. I honestly don’t know what psg you can make it to as admin. I assume executive admin might get fairly high but those are probably pretty hard to come by. Also, they will not promote if they don’t see a need or can’t justify it for the position. I wish you good luck.

I left BP and went to work for a mid-sized independent. Turned out to be a financial windfall.

Sometimes the world looks perfect,
Nothing to rearrange.
Sometimes you just
Get a feeling
Like you need some kind of change.

No matter what the odds are this time,
Nothing's going to stand in my way.
This flame in my heart
and a long lost friend

Gives every dark street
a light at the end.

Standing tall,
on the wings of my dream.
Rise and fall,
on the wings of my dream.

The rain and thunder
The wind and haze
I'm bound for better days.
It's my life
and my dream,
Nothing's going to stop me now.
It's my life
and my dream,

Nothing's going to stop me now.

Nothing's going to stop me now.

You are not alone. Depending on the BU, Function, Managers, Business need and whatever excuse a manager will throw your way, I have heard and seen people remain at 1 PSG their whole time a CVX. Well over 10 years. It can be discouraging. However, I have also seen an influx of people moving on from CVX and doing well. Definitely focus on the experience you have gained over time. It is a fact that not all supervisors or managers will reward your performance when it is deserved! I have been there and was lucky to have informal mentors and a few supervisors througout my tenure support promotions over 20 years. Where someone people have to formally request a promotion others maybe given. But again, this will be based on your supervisor/manager and how they see your performance and value.

Why in the world are you still at Chevron?

Market rate for an engineer with 10 years experience is 2-3x the pay of a PSG20.

When is EOI coming?!

Anyone who’s only had 2 promotions after 18 years is delusional if they think they’re a high performing employee going above and beyond. Over that span of time you must have had several managers, most of whom agreed you did not deserve a promotion. Trainings and conferences don’t mean a thing as the previous poster said. It’s all about what you actually delivered.

If you look around and think everyone else is the problem, it’s more likely that you are the problem yourself.

I agree with your thoughts. I would do the same thing. No need to share your salary with potential employers, focus on your experience. That is a very slow progression, specially at those PSGs.

Conferences and trainings are not distinguished performance metrics, nor do they generate revenue, so expecting something from those solely seems…..silly, based on that your rankings sound more than appropriate.

Responding to PMP rankings - I’ve been either 2 or 2+ and now VCs across the board even though I’ve definitely gone above and beyond. I’ve gone outside my scope to reach across the corporation and concentrations to get SME input to resolve complex operational and legal issues. I’ve take countless voluntary trainings both within the company and industry trainings. Attended multiple industry conferences and represented the company in industry governing bodies. I’m not the bottom 5% here.

You are pretty much de@d pooled. Why didn’t you get “the club membership” earlier in your career? Find out if you can still get in and go from there!
