Thread regarding Elevance Health (Anthem) layoffs

How are you doing with a job search?

I’ve been on the lookout for a while. I don’t want to leave immediately, but I wanted to see what’s out there. You never know when you might be laid off or pushed out, so it’s better to be prepared. Knowing there are other options available feels liberating and takes off some of the stress—at least, that’s what I thought. However, the offerings are slim, and now I’m more anxious than ever. What’s your experience? Maybe I just haven’t been looking hard enough, but still...

LinkedIn is full of posts of people that cannot find jobs. I think we are in trouble as a country. I'm thinking about moving to another country. Does anyone have any recommendations a good country to move to?

@g4+1jhjq4rb0 - companies are sending jobs overseas, cutting wages, bring in temp workers, flooding the market with unhealthy additive substances and behaviors, paying executives 800% more; then wondering why people are not having families. Make it affordable and stop stealing from everyday citizens and they will have kids.

It is! I worked in the lumberyard @ Lowes for a summer job some years ago. Got to drive the forklift. What a hoot! Caution : you can tip them over if you load it “just right”.
Yeah, not layoff related, but don’t be shy about looking for opportunities outside of healthcare or insurance.

I've not had an offer yet. I was thinking about trying Home Depot. Driving those fork lifts looks fun:)

But there’s a talent gap and unwillingness to work, so we need to look offshore and bring the talent in. The Harvard grad, just doesn’t stack up. CEOs say it, so it must be true. Nothing to do with pay and lining their own pockets.

Brutal. Just read an article that 2/3 of Harvard MBAs cannot find a job. Not even those connections are helping.

I haven’t had luck yet looking for other positions. I am considering taking a lesser paying job for many reasons. First my mental health, no place is perfect, but this is the worst job I’ve ever had. Second opportunities, as a remote worker there are no further opportunities for growth for me, I am being saddled with responsibilities way above my pay grade but with no payoff. Even if I take a 20% cut the opportunities elsewhere at least exist. I rather make less, be happier and have a potential to grow both in salary and title. I am seriously going to revisit my searches to consider jobs making less.

I looked for a day. Slim pickings. Got a interview on my first try with some Healthcare company in Puerto rico. I either tanked their interview from not having been interviewed in nearly a decade or they never had intentions to hire me in the first place. Judging how the hr rep was 10 minutes late to the meeting I'm going to guess the latter because I am perfect after all. This of course brought me a great deal of emotions and mainly anxiety because for those 3 days I really thought I was about to get out of here. I was ready to middle finger my team when they overstepped their boundaries and I had them right where I wanted them. I could hear them panicking after I told them I was leaving immediately but thanks to ghost jobs for wasting my time and getting my hopes up. I'll have to put my petty desire to implode the team on hold... but when I get my chance it's going to be so sweet.

I think it depends on so many things it’s probably not a good idea to put too much weight in other people’s response. You get some that say market is tough and been looking for months. Then you get people who say they make 20k more than working here after looking for short period.I was rifd and started looking immediately. I sent out 70 applications and got 3 bites. 2 from outside one internal. I didn’t want to look too long because wanted something before sub pay stopped and before the holidays. I ended up taking internal job because no paycut. The other job I was offered was 10k pay cut without factoring AIP. With AIP factor around 15- 20k. I kind of regret not taking that other job with the paycut.
