Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Think you can't make as much money other places. Think again.

Ok you think you cannot make as much money outside of exxon. Well you can retire and make just as much. Here is how. Let us assume a 120K salary which is 10k a month gross. Out of 10k you will probably net about 44% pay out. The difference is from taxes, medical, dental, and 401k match. If you retire you will get the exxon medical which you have to pay 300 per month. So you are taking in $4400.00 per month net. Ok no suppose you get a job earning 80k a year. The net from 80k will be about the same as your 120k exxon job. 80k is about 6666.66 gross per month. After just taxes this 5000.00 per month net assuming 25% tax rate. The difference is the medical and 401k match. My plan is to find a part time contract job. Again the problem is not just the money at exxon it is the toxic workplace, big brother employees, and corrupt ranking system. If exxon was not so terrible I would stay. I would rather try another place then stay at this he-l. The key is to find a contract job you enjoy without benefits. You can get an even higher salary if you don't need benefits. It is not all about money as it is about your sanity and well being.

Oh, sure, you can make more outside of Exxon—but let’s not pretend that means you will. The one thing you’ve got going for you is that smaller operators will throw money at you because 'Exxon' looks shiny on a resume. But don’t get too comfortable—everyone will secretly roll their eyes at you for the chip on your shoulder. At least you’ll get paid, though, so congrats on that, I guess.

Maybe if you are early career, but mid or late career if you’ve performed above average you are being paid well, and to find more elsewhere you’d better have some serious skills. I look at linked in at similar roles and those that actually post salary ranges I’m already at or well above their max.

The math is flawed with too many assumptions but you can make the same or more money at another company. Exxon always prided itself on telling new employees that they could have a job for life. No one can promise a job for life in the 21st Century.

I would rather make less money at another company then continue to work at exxon. Especially after retirement. You fools and masochist can stay for the torture. My mind has had enough of this s hit.

Okay guys, let me show you that you can make more money even if you don't work. So let's say instead of working you just beg for money. If you don't eat, don't pay for a house, don't pay for a car, don't pay for insurance you will have more money than if you did work!!!! Because math.
