Just trying to understand the general timeline or any information really of what the expectations are when it comes to moving up from an associate level position.

It is SO political. My one-time director was so terrible about promoting his staff. And, they only finally offered me my promotion once I’d accepted another job.
The only surefire way to further your career is to apply for positions outside your area. It really is that simple. Management doesn’t give one flip about you, or anybody else.
and to the person asking what it is - i’m assuming op means associate project mgr, associate business consultant, entry level process consultant, etc type roles (salary grade 10-12ish, similar to coordinator or ds in customer service). it’s “professional” vs “mid-professional” roles like proj mgr, bus cons, process consultant i (salary grade 13ish), vs “senior professional” like sr proj mgr, sr/lead bus cons, process consultant ii/iii (salary grade 14-17).
experience/time in role, professional development seem to be the biggest considerations. in my experience it seems to be easier to apply to the next level roles in other teams/depts than to get promoted from within the same team (just because of availability of positions) but promotions do happen. best thing to do is ask your manager what your advancement path looks like and what to aim toward.
What is an associate level position? I have never heard of that.
What’s the best way to find this information?
Depends entirely on your division, team, and manager.
