People always like to point out every year that the "bonus isn't guaranteed," and to a certain extent that's true, but something would have to go disastrously wrong for the bonus to not be awarded. The scorecard (or whatever they're calling it now) is set in advance for the fiscal year. It's more or less a promissory statement from the company that if X, Y, and Z metrics are hit, this will be the pay off. (Note how I didn't say contract; the company can, at their discretion, discontinue it.)

For employees to not get the performance incentive, the company as a whole would have to miss every single metric by a catastrophic amount. MSAT would have to be near zero. Same for OSAT. Pre-tax income would have to plummet to near-impossible lows. Literally every single metric on that board would have to be not just red (in which case the bonus would just be very low), but dangerously red.

Sure, the performance incentive is at "Board discretion," but something unprecedented would have to happen for them to say "No payout at all this year."

Bottom line: Don't spend your bonus money until it actually hits your checking account (i.e., don't go putting something super expensive you can't afford on your credit card because "the bonus is right around the corner"), but there's nothing wrong with doing a little pre-planning/budgeting for what you intend to spend it on if/when it comes based on your bonus target.

Usually is paid out in the first paycheck in March. I see no reason not to get a bonus since it was one of the most profitable years in company history.

You want a bonus after what you did to the people in California and buying a 50 million dollar jet? STFU and give the bonus to the PH!
