Do badge swipes really get tracked? Does it actually matter?

Badge swipes are tracked, as well as connection to the wifi is tracked, they struggle to track when you badge out of the office though they may just track how long you are connected to WiFi.

HR does and will reach out or force your manager too, in order to issue formal warnings. You will be investigated IF issued a formal warning…. They care more about in office attendance than actual work productivity.

To the post above, you do realize that even though offshore can work remote, they are working 10+ hour shifts daily?

If "you have to be on the onsite network for 6 hours to count a an office day", I have not been in office for the past year

People act coming to the office today is some draconian task and not what the majority of the work force in this country does, and it's honestly really annoying whenever people complain about it.

It's frustrating that offshore employees are allowed to work remotely, with screaming children in the background, without issue, but that same flexibility isn't offered to U.S.-based employees.

There’s been a strong push recently to make all new roles in-office, or at best, hybrid. Full-time remote roles have become rare, and as a hiring manager, I've been specifically instructed not to hire remotely, which I'm forced to abide by. The problem is that most top talent today expects remote work, and by limiting our options to those who are willing to relocate or commute, we're narrowing the talent pool and missing out on some of the best candidates.

The larger issue, though, is how this policy affects employee progression. It's tough for remote workers to move up within the company if they’re not within the area of a physical office. Roles have to go through an arduous approval process to be opened up to remote employees. My team has lost several highly skilled individuals who had no desire to relocate, but also couldn’t move forward in their careers because of the in-office requirement. We're losing good people because of a policy that doesn't align with how work is evolving in today’s environment. If this is how Rhodes want's the company to progress, I reckon everything is going as planned in his eyes, but I am completely against it.

Yes, they’re being tracked. From the conversations I overheard, JB was obsessively focused on maintaining an office presence in Charlotte and Detroit. His goal seems to be positioning himself as a major player in those markets, after securing the office and sponsoring the FC, plus the ads with the Hornets, nascar etc etc. There’s a clear push for people to promote Ally and show off the brand. Michael, on the other hand, is the more micromanaging, type-A personality. Wants his people in the office or to try and get them to resign so he does not have to pay severance. My boss reports right up to him, the expectation is for us to be in the office five days a week. Michael doesn’t care about Detroit as much he even suggested telling all employees, no matter where they’re located, that they need to be in the Charlotte office, but was told he could not do that.

Badge swipes for entry are tracked, but truthfully, tracking departures is much more challenging, if not entirely impossible. As far as I know, most buildings don’t require a swipe when leaving, so that’s not something we can easily monitor. I’ve heard time on the network is monitored as well, but I’m skeptical about how reliable that data is. Ally’s infrastructure isn’t exactly known for being top-notch, and frankly, there’s just not enough bandwidth or resources to enforce that level of oversight.

In terms of badge data, it’s typically shared with senior leadership, but enforcement is really left up to individual managers. Personally, my team typically comes into the office three days a week, and I haven’t had any issues with leadership regarding that. But of course, that can vary depending on who your direct report is and how flexible they’re willing to be. I’ve heard rumors about HR stepping in to issue formal warnings, but I’ve yet to see that actually happen.

The in-office requirement is highly unpopular—just about everyone I know dislikes it—but it doesn’t seem like there’s any chance of changing the minds of the C-suite. Honestly, I don’t fully understands the real rationale behind the mandate. It feels like a mix of control and a need to justify the significant investment in the new office building in Charlotte. And let’s be real, it's also likely a bit of 'keeping up with the joneses,' as other financial firms have similar policies.

Badge is tracked. As well as internet connection and key strokes. This has been the norm since 2021. Leadership receives reports on percentages and can dig in further request z-ids

It’s tricky… they still haven’t found out how to track it correctly via Workday. It was never setup properly back when Workday was implemented. But I have it from very good sources that our new CEO is preparing to have a full 5 day return by the end of the year starting. Some groups within the CFO org are being chosen to pilot it to work out any kinks for network stability and office space issues. Should be announced Q2.

I was told they are tracked but its more of a bank protection thing as opposed to a performance metric to hold us to... wish the company would just make official statements instead of leaving things ambiguous.

Badge swipe and signing into company network both seems to be tracked. Not sure on duration.

They also track time on the network. I was told you have to be on the onsite network for 6 hours to count a an office day
