My manager dislikes me. There has been some retaliatory behavior. Does U.S. Bank typically terminate people without a huge violation/reason before a PIP? I realize I’m an at will employee and COULD be- but DO they?

I was fired as a US Bank remote CSR due to a 9 minute unexplained lapse where the call seemed to be connected but no conversation. It is a high call volume environment and if the issue wasn't addressed as it happened it would be hard to remember, however this was cited as reason for termination.
I hear from a very good source that each business line head has the authority to quash ethics complaints if necessary. On one level this makes sense, but on another level it just seems wrong. Probably explains why nothing ever seems to get done with ethics complaints.
Ethics complaints: I filed one a long time ago. Gave names of witnesses and etc. They were willing to speak up when called. None of them were called. Nothing seemed to have happened.
I don’t think that anyone reads ethics complaints. It’s just a repository where they all go, but nothing ever happens as a result. There are rumors about a guy in RMC who gets 3-4 ethics complaints a year, yet nothing happens because he is at a certain level.
I feel like using the R word to HR could help your case if you were to reach out via the Ethics line and document your case on how you think your manager is retaliating against you. Worth a shot IMO, at worst you get PIP'd, at best, you get a new manager and get to keep you job.
Ive seen people in the past dismissed for violations of the code of ethics (that thing you have to agree to when you do benefits). If the manager really wants you gone they can try to find a violation but usually they would go through a PIP process.
This is a legal question. Should contact an attorney, while you are looking for another job
What department is this?
I would look for a new job.
How many months for entire process from verbal to pip to actual termination? I am 54 and curious if I will last till 55 when I retire
My manager likes me but I want a severance package.
I’m praying for a new manager. One can dream.
Pray for a RIF. There is always one just around the corner.
Oh ok well I didn’t do anything even close to that. Thanks for sharing that info!
Unless you threatened violence or severely violated an ethics policy, you will be “warned” verbally, written, then placed on a PIP.
I had a crazy employee a few years back that would cuss out other employees, hang up on clients…HR would not step in unless physical violence was threatened.
So we had to go through verbal, written, PIP, and then instead of termination, the employee was laid off.
