Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Long-term sufferers

This is not an ideal company and there are many issues that are just piling up. However, I think that there isn't any (at least not in this industry) truly altruistic company that serves its employees first. Good luck with the expectations that any company will value you as much as you think you deserve! When I come to this forum, it's always surprising to see all the long-term sufferers who have never made an attempt to leave this place. Why are you still staying here?

Looks like OP has just gotten around to realize what many of us have for years now - Chevron has two classes of employees, the anointed high-pots, who get all the best options and benefits, and the plain-old expendables, who are constantly reminded they're lucky to have a job.

If you have changed rolls and/or been promoted every 2-3 years, you might be a hi-pot. If not, you are a low-pot like all the rest of us, slogging it away in the sweat shop begging for scraps from management. If you stick around 40 years you might do well but it will be a miserable trip and you will be mentally and physically used up by the end; ready for your barcolounger and a can of Hamm's.

I have been working here for +20 years I have not heard the term Hipots until just now. Who do I ask to find out if I’m a Hipots. Sounds like something that I might like.

@1avg, if by these people were picked early in their career you mean that these people started out more successful than many others then you would be correct. That's the case in all walks of life. No reason to fret though. There are successful, smart, skilled ambitious people, there are those who are the opposite, and many levels in between. Be happy with what you have achieved. You could be working at Wendys.

I've worked for several different majors over the years. They are all the same at their core. You may get some promotions over the years but only the HiPots move up quickly. If that's your goal, you'll be sadly disappointed since these people were picked early in their career. Just do your job and keep your nose clean. There will good days and bad so welcome to the real world.
