Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Could my manager know already?

He's been acting strange since the announcement (mostly staying clear of everybody, which is not his usual behavior) and I didn't think much of it. But after having the weekend to worry about the future and mull things over, now I think he might already know who's getting laid off and that our team is affected. Are there any managers here who can tell me if this could be true or not?

My personal opinion the next year economy will be even worse than this year, and if you got saved in this round of layoffs you shouldn’t lower your guard, more rounds of layoffs will come mid and late next year
And I am afraid that bad news is the normal news for the next few years

Your manager knows. Some of these managers' managers have already exposed themselves and their tactics. If you are being treated unfairly, you have no recourse unless they violate your federal and or constitutional rights, so follow the advice of your lawyer. My personal advice is you should always keep an open mind in employment when you are seeking an employer to provide a living for yourself. Take care.

If it's anything like ACT 2016, immediate managers will be told either the morning of (the notice to the employee) or late the night before. It's also how the quarterly layoffs have been taking place, and usually involves the people manager AND their manager, who make the notification.

With October 27 being the Q3 earnings call, rumors are swirling that October 28 will begin the notifications. Everyone affected has to be gone by December 31st.

Celebrate and stop prostituting your labor. There is life after a layoff.

That's the most believable thing I've read on here. I haven't heard of any large numbers being laid off yet so I expect we're waiting for the higher-ups to pull the trigger.

Let us know when you know.

For a thing like this it is typically directors and above who create the list. Note if FLMs have not been asked to fill out skills spreadsheets or do some out of cycle ranking, chances are it is not skills or performance based but by job code or job function. Good luck.

All directors level and VPs know already and I am not sure when we will get the green light to start talking to the effected employees and inform them with the decision and share some numbers with them, all BUs impacted and all teams as well

The WFH deal due to Covid augmented some of the employees disconnects. If you found yourself with a lot of time in your hand while working from home until now, then most likely you are on the list. It is about how much value and ROI you are bringing into the table right now against the budget deficit all BU’s have at this moment.

When the economy numbers were OK a year or so ago, there was no issues with having all these extra HC around but now the only real cost cut that can be done in the books to make an impact(for the shareholders) is headcount.
The pros if you get affected are #1 you have been getting a great deal for the past 2 years in lockdown working remotely #2 if you are let go you will have a good re-hired status where you can come back in the future if you want to do so #3 you will get a good severance package and if you have been at intel over 20 years and also qualify for retirement, then you get some of those perks in top.

Yes, it does sucks if they call your number since you lose a steady flow of income but on the other hand, you may get up to almost 1 full year of pay with the opportunity to come back if you want too plus you will take a break from the mess Intel is right know which it will be worst for the ones staying behind picking up the pieces and working on a real tense and paranoic environment that will just get worst and worst.

BTW, if you have already the rules of (55,75,65) and you think you will be affected, check the encore volunteer program and apply before they cut you out in the next few weeks. Intel will paid 25K for 1000 hrsof volunteer work but the trick is that you have to apply while being an intel employee..

If you find yourself doing less meaningful work and little to no manager support, then there’s a good chance that your name has been flagged.

Trust your instincts, always.

Teams that will be affected, the managers know already since they are the ones that submitted the list of “candidates” up to their divisions. This time is not a “tops down“ exercise from corps but rather a bottoms up driven by each BU depending on their budget situation.

All GM’s\VPs from each BU division that are affected have already a list of people ranked by priority so depending on how many people they need to cut; they will pull from that list until they meet the target.

This has been worked out already for the past 5 weeks by each org leadership, operations, finance, and HR -BU team and will be executed starting this week until the end of the month before Q3 results. Most likely the manager will use the Q3 Insight(focal) sync up meeting at the end of this month to inform the affected employees, but it will be before the official announce to the public.

If you team is being affected, your manager KNOWS already. Your manager may have given your name as part of the list but is not the manager final decision since GM’s\VP’s will be the ones making the call this time and not Corp HR. If you have a good relationship with your manager, ask him\her to at least let you know whether or not you are in the list so in that way you can prepare in case they call your number.

My manager already confirmed I am on the list, but it is not his call at the end. You have to be honest with yourself and do a ranking and rating against your peers and also within your organization and you will have a good idea on where you stand. This time the decision factor has nothing to do with only-performance but rather budget and the business can just not keep as many HC they have with some group’s budgets being in red and HC being the biggest expense in our general ledgers.

He may know. I would think that upper mgmt and HR would not want managers to be privy to this too soon, but I would think that at some level mgmt already knows who is going away. If you are a Director, your boss already knows..a floor techs mgr, probably does not know.
