Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Kumar: Give low performers, long time loyal workers, and disengaged workers incentive to go. Do the right thing - get it all done now.

The what if you don't risk? All those employees, their families, their friends, their supporters, never buying a ford again. The rest of all of their lives. That is huge. Just do the xxxing right thing for once.

He was arrogant before the Free Press. He fired two directors from marketing within months after arriving at Ford as CMO. He never responded to their emails, just fired them. He never could adhere to a meeting agenda, required decisions were missed. Directors were scared. A lot of effort was spent on trying to manage him. Terrible work environment.

Of course Farley believes he is the smartest guy in the auto industry, he reads it in the Free Ford Press all the time! And it must be true, because Ford sent them the press releases about him to print as “news.”

Having worked for Farley I know he believes he has a unique understanding of the customer and under his leadership Ford can outsell anyone. He doesn't need loyal Ford employees. I personally worry when Ford employees don't recommend Ford products. Marsha Winegarden who led New Model Launch worried about this.

As a Ford retiree I recommend you buy the most reliable vehicle that meets your needs. I own a Honda, three of my neighbors have brought Hondas.

We had a bumper sticker/ license plate bracket that read, "I retired from Ford, I still drive a Ford". I don't see those much anymore.

I think many retiree's sense of loyalty is unfortunate. Certainly Elena Ford felt you should be grateful for Ford providing a job for you and your family. But I would argue if you worked hard in school you had options and given the company's current direction you may have made a bad decision decades ago.

Agreed. Handing out 9 months plus health care in in hopes someone will buy a Ford in the future is poor return on investment.

To those threatening to never buy a Ford if they don't get a package, it is clear you are never going to buy one again anyway.

@rhu+1je5kDao reason departing managers are purchasing their lease vehicles is that they need a vehicle and due to chip, part shortages combined with dealer markup above msrp and finally lot shortages - it is their only option after years of leasing. They haven't owned a vehicle in years and now is not the est time to try to buy one off a lot.

For the past 20 years the employee surveys have told Ford that they should have remote offices in areas like Atlanta, Austin and Phoenix to attract and retain talent. Each time the employees were told Ford is so incredible that employees flock to Dearborn to work. Ok I will give you a moment to stop laughing.
Then the building remodels to open office and facelifts to the Ford properties were going to cause employees to flock to Dearborn. Then the train station was going to cause employees to flock to Dearborn.
Delusional management for sure. The DEI messaging is just a diversion message. Sounds better than Ford is desperate and 20 years behind its competitors, who have had US geographically dispersed workforce for 20+ years.

I also can't figure out FARIC. Spelman is a very good liberal arts historically black college for women. Georgia Tech is a fine research university. Georgia is a relatively new swing state that democrats and republicans will fight for.

My best guess is that recruiting might be easier for a facility in Atlanta rather than Detroit. Also cost of living is way cheaper for Atlanta than Palo Alto

Gotta make room to hire @ FARIC more aptly known as FABRIC as announced by Ford they will be focusing on recruiting from the black colleges in the Atlanta area. Will they stop throwing away money on the train station now that they are hung ho on FARIC? And given the demographics of Detroit why do they need to build in Atlanta to attract black applicants? Inquiring minds want to know what’s behind the Ford PR spin.

The message sent: don't over perform, and you get a package. Those complaining it's unfair, start underperforming. Simple! Management will then reap what they sow.

You are missing the point. The retirees in August received the 9 months pay. This discussion is about not getting the 9 months, which is offered now to poor performers only, as a reward for sucking? Maybe Kumar can explain the nuance.

I'll give you an example of the loyalty with buying Ford vehicles after the company screws you. Example#1, I hired in as a Ford salaried employee and in early 2000s I got spun off to visteon. Less than a year later I bought a Dodge truck (and my sister did the same even though I still had A plan). Then when I became full time Ford again a few years later, I did buy a new Ford car again. See how that works?

You are wrong about workers in August never buying another Ford vehicles. According to the garage, the number of managers who have purchased their lease cars upon retirement is at record levels.
Not everyone is disguntled. Many were delighted to retire with a big bonus.

If you have to ask “when is the last day to file for retirement” you’re behind the curve. Check lifeatford and my Ford benefits. There is info there. You have received emails also, if you truly are an employee. Good luck,

That is just terrible management. No way around it. Outrageous!
So involuntary to many good folks who were let go in August vs voluntary to folks who are being termed low performers. Think about that!! If you have a brain, you are outraged.

I for one am so disgruntled by only poor performers getting the package that I will sell all my family Ford vehicles and I will never buy one again. Yet I've driven only Ford vehicles my entire life. That should tell you something. That is how mad I am about the unfair current package terms.

I think Kumar forgot how layoffs affect sales. I know many people laid off in August, none bought Ford products after getting other jobs. Further, many of their relatives canceled orders after their relatives were let go. And those jobs going over seas?! Those overseas employees do not buy Ford products!
So your already shrinking market share continues to get smaller with each layoff.
The last one out, turn out the lights! This company is going down fast.
