@OP:
Don't volunteer--doing so makes you ineligible for any & all types of unemployment benefits. Plus, you've paid in to it, you may as well get some back.
Start interviewing for a new job and leave asap.
I saw a severance letter recently for those under grade 9. It was ugly.
Around the 2016 layoffs, with about 4 years at intel, I got no package because I didn't meet their requirements that kept changing. Don't get your hopes up for a fat paycheck on your way out the door.
If they do a VSP (volunteer separation package), Intel will likely identify the individuals qualified for it. Based on 2016 ACT, those people are the ones they would lay off if further cuts are needed (so the VSP invite is a hint of what might happen). It’s not something that anyone can sign up for.
They will likely offer voluntary separation packages for some folks. And if you get laid off, severance historically is a couple of months pay + a week per year of service.
If I was planning on leaving I’d wait until I got laid off or offered the golden handshake.
Start interviewing now, get a new gig lined up and delay the start date. If you get laid off in the meantime it’s win-win. Either way you’ll be better off somewhere else, don’t just sit around. Best luck.
No need to volunteer. It will come.
really sad
