Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Sites hit most and least

Among all the sites in US and offshore, which sites would be the most and least impacted.
I am guessing low cost centers like Bangalore may be least impacted.

US for sure. Since when did they care about optics ? Intel got its Biden bucks and will now lay off a ton of people in the highest cost geo then use the cash for stock buybacks so the executives can get paid. Then they’ll say “see the stock is doing much better the layoffs were necessary “.

heard from some well known sources that the layoff will be announced closer to the end of this month and the number can touch 20,000 and almost every group will be affected, looks like a major shake up

You’d be surprised as to how little they care. CHIPS is passed - who cares about optics, they know full well we are heading into recession and Intel will only be the headline for a few days until IBM, Microsoft, AMD or some other major co conducts a massive layoff of their own in November.

The only people who upper management cares about are the shareholders. Hierarchy of value according to Intel (and almost any public company) is: support staff (sales, finance, IT, HR) < those who add to the value chain (Eng, devops, and techs at Intel) < Director+ level management < shareholders. It’s a recession in a capitalist society - the rich stay rich, the poor get poorer, and the middle class gets layed off.

The optics don't look good laying off US workers while taking Govt subsidies through the CHIPS act. I can't see that happening.

I don't think US employees will get the largest hit. After getting billions from US taxes they will try to avoid it.

Well according to the source, it will be wherever the marketing teams are based, or where they will no longer be based, to be clear. I don’t think you need to be in an expensive city to do marketing.

As always, US sites will be hit hardest because they have the highest labor cost and most employer-friendly labor laws.
