Thread regarding MetLife Inc. layoffs

Rating and promotion

Is it true that our direct reporting manager has no idea of our final rating and it’s finalized by HR. How do I know if they are considering my promotion or not.

Met is too busy paying out lawsuit losses and lining executive pockets to bother giving the working cogs any money.

Thanks @5urm+1jYttFSX . This is valuable information:

'And that's where HR gets final say. In recent years, I have seen HR go back to the department and say, "Sorry. Can't give that high of a raise to person A. Get it under 5% instead." '

I guess HR has to pay for all the bovine excr-ment that they engage in, so they take it out of what should have been our raises.

Thanks for the advice. I plan on taking it.

"HR just signs off on what’s decided at the business level and plugs in the numbers."

Doesn't matter how much we argue that a low raise will make that high performer a flight risk. The company has decided losing headcount is a worthwhile risk. Best thing you can do if you are unhappy with the raise you get this cycle is get a job outside Met.

Looks like Metlife has toxic HR’s. Now understand why smart and highly motivated people don’t stay here longer.

How can HR have final say? (I used a question mark!) They don’t. VP of Dept has final say.

Dept gets x amount $ to divvy up. They know what that amount is in about October. Manger submits annual evaluation, VP decides how much you get. Well that’s what I’ve been told.

HR just signs off on what’s decided at the business level and plugs in the numbers.

It’s very subjective. You know if they just don’t like you because…well let’s say…you are smarter than the VP and have blue eyes…then don’t expect much

Yes HR has final say on all raises and promotions.

One way to tell whether you are getting promoted is by whether you use a question mark at the end of questions.
