Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

All jokes aside

Would you recommend Intel to people who are looking for a job in this industry? I don't mind jokes but I would appreciate some serious answers. Just want to see what the general consensus is. Personally I wouldn't actively discourage anyone if they genuinely want to work at Intel but I wouldn't exactly recommend them this job either.

If you are a stellar engineer and want to work on innovative products, I would not recommend Intel to you.

If you want to coast, make more money then you are worth, have some DEI attribute, are good at power point, are good as weaving a story, like to check other people's work, love paperwork for the sake of paperwork (even when it doesn't add value) then Intel very well could be a good fit for you.

I would not recommend Intel unless someone needed a job. Not a career. A job. Some will luck out and have a good manager. Many will not. The culture is toxic and rewards dysfunction. Some are ok with that. Others not so much.

intel is pretty entrenched with it's design and manufacturing methodologies.
i would suggest going to google or apple for more of a cutting edge approach.

Did you see the great post from an almost retiree looking to spend 2 years at Intel before retiring? Good example.

@1iwx+1jXoxKNV

You retired, the good years and days are gone for Intel.

AMD competitive and actually leaner and superior executives and strategy and most important superior business model.

Nvidia similar narrative

Apple, Amazon, Google, Microsoft all past big customers have discover the competitive and advantage of custom silicon and Foundry. BTW AMD has superior cost of ownership.

Intel is finished that is a certainty!

I'd only encourage it if you're into hardware.

This is a bad place to get balanced feedback. Skews negative.

The reality is there's good and bad.. a lot depends on the team and your manager.

I would highly recommend to work for intel. Been in all parts of Assembly and Fab, MT, Engineer, Engineering manager, Group Leader. Been there 28 years. Many opportunities abound. If a person has decedent skills, is a fast learner and shows up daily to work hard the sky is the limit. Instead of complaining about a manager, have the ability to apply to be transferred to a new group. So for me it's highly recommend. Don't let perceived roadblocks stop you.I retired 2 years ago.

For those on process side, and so with limited options as there’re only TSMC and Samsung out there besides Intel, is it really really bad? Yes it’s going to be a tough ride but isn’t that going to be case everywhere else? Has anyone got impacted on manufacturing side yet?

The biggest professional disappointment in my career, ever, has been working for inhell. You can get a glimpse of that by noticing they love to hire only new college graduates. If you have no other options, then it's decent enough to support your family, but you should heavily consider any other offer if possible.

@sea Maybe you were paid top notch pay scale while you were in intel. When I was at intel I was underpaid by about 20% ...

Yes, still in the top 1% due to the good decisions and hard work of past employees.

To be honest, the compensation at Intel is top notch. But the growth and challenge aspect to your career will be lacking

Never work for a company with no growth.

If the revenue stays the same, it’s very hard to advance your career since everyone is fighting over the fixed pie. Tenure and other factors will limit your access to that pie.

I’ll let you decide for yourself if you think Intel is a growth company.

It depends on a lot of factors for each person. The type of work that you want to do, where you want to live... My cautious recommendation would be to look at the history of the company and see if you would fit. In comparison to Intel's peer companies Intel has a history of big layoffs, starting new business ventures and then dropping them before they can actually really get started, questionable hiring and staffing objectives, potential age discrimination, and cronyism/nepotism just to name a few issues. All tech companies will demand long hours and availability. Intel is steadily falling behind its competitors, what do you see as the future state and why would you be successful in helping Intel get there. Intel is not going to go away but it is not likely to enjoy the leads it had in the past. You can make a good living working here but it is probably more stressful than it needs to be. If you have choices in job offers I would use Intel's offer as your last resort. You will probably be happier and more successful elsewhere.

In design Intel can’t compete with the fabless, if you ask who are those better companies I can help and say Apple, Nvidia, AMD and Qualcomm. pretty much every fabless grew faster is more nimble and efficient, why join the Titanic unless you are privileged. Even if you are privileged and say talented too why waste your time and effort on the Titanic.

If you are in support again why join the only company that shrank during the big growth years and will really be hurting now.

If you are on the fab site it sucks as there is only Samsung and TSMC foundry. But those are cleaning up. I’d avoid the bo-m bust memor as it is bust cycle now. The process and equipment guys got a challenge unless you can go to ASML. Memory is a bust as is equipment, but logic for Foundry is good. Intel IFS is a joke, no customers, no technology, no ecosystem. A wet dream, they will neve fill those white elephants in Ohio or Germany
