Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

What a bunch of fu----g Id--ts!

What a bunch of fu----g id--ts!
I got my surplus notification September 22. Off payroll October 6th. Got my lump sum pension check early last week.
Today, just now, my wife who has NEVER worked for this shithole of a company, never wants to, just got a call from AT&T / Fidelity Benefits advising her about the recent increase in the higher pension rates and advising her to take appropriate action to ensure she doesn't lose the estimated 30% in pension funds.
I already have my pension lump sum check and she NEVER worked for AT&T

What a bunch of fu----g id--ts!

I did my paperwork today and if I wanted to send to another IRA provider they sent a check to me made out to that provider & IRA account . If I use a fidelity rollover IRA it is electronic. I can then move to another IRA electronically. Made no sense. I don't want to deal with a check so that is what I am doing.

“ I got the check to roll into a traditional IRA, at another brokerage house, not Fidelity“

Still odd you got a check. Normally this would all be handled electronically.

Don't be mad. Just take your lump sum to Atlantic City and double your money easy.

I put my lump sum into a guaranteed high tech investment. It's all over the news now, FTX. Is there anyway I can get it back? Some type of ATT insurance or something?

"I got the check to roll into a traditional IRA, at another brokerage house, not Fidelity."

Who did you choose over Fidelity and specifically why?

Hating AT&T is one thing, but Fidelity has a lot of great no load, low-fee options, and is recommended right alongside Vanguard by many fee-only planners.

I got the check to roll into a traditional IRA, at another brokerage house, not Fidelity. Made out to my account, not directly to me or else I'd have to pay a heafty tax.

Fidelity is a mediocre brokerage service but when they got into handling call centers, employee benefits, etc. they got out of their area of expertise. Much like a company near and dear to our hearts who expanded outside telecommunications into media. The top execs at HBO, who had won numerous awards for their productions, were told by an id--t to quit pushing back on his ideas as he knew more than them about producing media. After a year or so he realized he couldn't lead them with his lack of expertise and sold all media at a loss showing more of his stupidity

AT&T sends regular outbound files to AT&T vendors listing all employees participating in the benefits, plus other vendors, like the ones handling branded clothing and other braded items. Fidelity is no exception. Yes, Fidelity is just the administrator, but Fidelity does not do a thing unless told to by AT&T. So the error lies with AT&T. It's my understanding the Fidelity file is a nightly feed. So the error lies with AT&T not updating their records appropriately.

Like the OP said, what a bunch of F*G id--ts!

I agree HR are id--ts at times but your anger is misguided this time. Fidelity is the administrator of the pension funds so you should direct it towards them.
