Thread regarding IBM layoffs

You shouldn't automatically assume the worst

Some people I know have given up on making additional efforts, believing that PIP does not indicate that IBM will give them a chance to prove themselves, but that they want to get rid of them instead. However, why immediately assume the worst? There are also those who survive the PIP.

In my org, 2nd lines were required to identify 5% of employees to cut each year. Once a name was on that list, it could only come off if it was replaced with another name. That's why being put on a PIP is the kiss of death. Because your 2nd line doesn't want you to succeed lest they have to identify someone else to let go.

I assume the worst, but IBM always finds a way to go even lower. Innovation at its finest.

In my 35 years at IBM- (Been retired for over 10 yrs) I have NEVER seen anyone come back from being put on a PIP. NO MATTER how hard a person tried, It was NEVER good enough to keep the wolf from the door.

Why assume the worst? Because that’s what a PIP is. It’s a layoff without the severance pay.

OP: That is utter bollocks, son. No one is immediately assuming the worst, you troll. But we are also not id--ts. IBM, having made up its very nuanced and judicious mind, does NOT give anyone "a chance to prove themselves." The PIP IS your exit slip. Who are you? Xi Jinping? You know and I know (and everyone reading this forum knows) that what you are spewing is utter propaganda nonsense. People are on a PIP, Mr. Troll. because IBM wants them out the door and, preferably, in another state.

If you are not an HR troll, you have to be the single most naive S-O-B I've ever read on this forum. Your assertion speaks to a credulity that may come from actual brain damage. You do understand that? Please get help.
