Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Vendor Offer

Should I quit? I feel like a sitting duck waiting for my round of lay-ffs. I work in D1D. Also management has never addressed layoffs. The promotion freeze is ki----g me. I was planning on negotiating bc I am being paid significantly less for my experience. I’m a HW Engineer working in IFS. I have less than 1 year of experience working at Intel. I have a master’s degree and 3 years of industrial experience.

My work load is also high bc a senior engineer in my group quit. So I’m filling a huge gap w/ limited compensation.

The resignation of Randhir Thakur (IFS VP) is making me anxious. I recently got an offer from an Intel vendor. The base pay is ~35K more that what I’m receiving (a two grade promotion) & a 10K sign on bonus. I had 2 years of industrial experience yet Intel low-balled me on my salary. During these hard times at Intel justifying a promotion seems challenging. I feel like Intel values values terminal degrees more than relevant work experience. (This is why a whole bunch of PhDs are pushing shopping carts.)

Should I stay when the future of Intel is very uncertain. I desire a higher salary to pay off my large student loans and be able to afford a home. Also the cost of living in Oregon is high and Portland is like Gotham.

GTFO, Ronler Acres and the whole LTD is a frighten train wreck. Spend more RD there and total FUBAR.

Get on the vendor side of logic is a no brained. Remove Pat has given Anne a blank check to regain leadership so they will spend lots of money. Be on the receiving side, not the spending side. They spent more and got nothing and the pressure is on and the track record is all failure.

Given the positives of the offer and the issues at Intel, ask yourself “Why should I stay?”. The only thing that might change what seems to be an obvious answer is if jumping to the vendor would be akin to jumping from the frying pan into the fire. But if they are a vendor you work with, you should be able to find out if that’s the case.

OP you are crazy to stay! iFS is a train wreck with no scale, no customer experience, no ecosystem, and lastly no technology. One man’s wet dream

YES, take it. Intel is messed up right now. I just started a new job about 3 weeks ago and it pays $27K more and it made a huge difference.

Long time employee here. Given your short time at Intel, the climate, and how you feel, it seems to make sense to accept the vendor offer. This assumes the vendor culture and stability is compatible for you. I don’t see you getting to the level of compensation offered by the vendor anytime soon at Intel.
