Thread regarding AIG (American Intl Group Inc.) layoffs

Play the game

Here's the thing, been here a long time. Never seen it this bad at the field level. The greed at the top that resulted in previous layoffs and outsourcing has created a talent vacuum at many levels, primarily filed staff and low level managers. So many people have left and continue to leave that multiple divisions of the company barely have the capacity to do their day to day work. Accenture cannot run the entire company, but if PZ decides to outsource your department you have zero control over that decision. Whether you work extremely hard or just coast it isn't going to change one thing.

You are most likely not going to get layed off. There just isn't much fat left on the bone so stop worrying about layoffs. Second, you are not going to get rewarded for hard work. It isn't going to happen as long as execs want to keep their lofty bonuses and continue billion dollar stock buy backs every quarter. They have chosen to sacrifice employees for the "stakeholders".

So that leaves you with a decision. Do I work hard hoping one day I will get a reward or do I coast? In my opinion, for those that have been here a long time and have put in the sweat and tears, now is the time where you can reward yourself. You can now be bold and say no, I'm not going to work early or late, I may even takes some half days. Maybe those emails can wait a day or two for a reply. I'm using all of my pto and not feeling guilty that there is no back up. In other words, the correct answer is I choose to coast.

It won't last forever. I will find a better company eventually, but for now I simply coast with no work stress, no drama, no cares about whether we write that account or not. My work nirvana will end eventually, but for now I'm giving myself a reward for the years of hard work. Be thoughtful before you leave. Do it on your terms and if you can get paid a full time salary and benefits to do a part time job for a while then why not? You aren't going to hurt PZ by resigning so don't try to be a martyr. Play the game.

Keep your eyes open for other opportunities and when you find one that fits jump on it. Until then I'm coastin, easy going like the tide. Happy holidays.

Man I feel very relaxed already, I got the hang of how to do the bare minimum to appear outstanding on the outside, in reality at best I'm working at 30% of my capabilities... And yet my work is still very good compared to what many do. More and more people around the Aig world with whom I liaised left, mostly they are replaced by people in India or Bulgaria or other countries... Often they are just not replaced at all. "IT" is a total mess too, honestly IT wasn't good at AiG even before this new course... since Forever... but now when something broke I don't even care about opening a ticket, I just let it rot... I hope I find a good job before they sack me

I agree. I have been coasting a lot at my current position. I am just collecting a paycheck. I started a side project, taking courses while at my desk. I do maybe 10% of the work I should, but no one cares. The people I super don’t care anymore, so why should I. My manager doesn’t even care…

More money is not going to come working here. I do see job security for the first time in a 100 years....lol. My team is one resignation from disaster and management has admitted to me. I have never seen this before.
