- IBM (IBM.NaE) CEO ARVIND KRISHNA SAYS CO HAS NO INTENTION OF CUTTING DOWN OR REDUCING HEADCOUNT-CNBC INTERVIEW Further company coverage:

“I have no intention of laying off IBM employees. However, I just happen to have a whole ton of over-50 employees who need to be put on PIPs even though they are performing well.”
He's a lying POS
Fact. If you extrapolate out the "2nd line - re-deploy half" mandate (nearly half in my area) through systems - the redeployments far exceed the number of open requisitions.
Arvind is certainly aware of that mismatch in mandated redeployments vs open requisitions.
As folks have noted - half or more (2/3?) - posted reqs are single city - and combined with ITO 3 days - further constrains choices.
The only thing different from an overt RA is there is
- - no official time line to find your next position (though urgency is encouraged)
- - redeployments are the only way those open reqs can be filled - so no overt "don't hire them" unless they don't want to fill them.
That said I'm confident Arvind will want to contain this in Q1 2023.
I think he'll be able to anyway - I can't see the (relative) paucity of internal jobs not being filled by end of Jan or Feb. Then with no landing the RAs will begin.
But may end up better than RA overall from a time perspective
- - Diligently apply (because you know - job - money)
- - Keep diligently applying, lowering the bar over time, until internal/external job found, or RA by end of Q1 or when internal jobs largely filled
- - RA would then be RA terms for a month or two more ride out
- - I'd guess (?) and employees efforts could factor in . I mean if you're not searching - might as well let you go. If you are, or appear to be, diligently searching, you'd be farther down that candidate list.
Some positives
- - you'll end up employee of record this Dec 15/17 for 401k match payout - which said issue is no more end of this year.
- - you'll probably get to end of Jan maybe end of Feb before RA if you don't land
- - so likely "paid" through end of Q1 and perhaps into Q2
- - for lots of extra time to find external position.
Wake up Arvind! Get rid of middle management. A lot of them.

It’s a good one.
I found and pasted post of the headline that I came across. I figured it might put some of you at ease. I for one was RA in 2019

Both denials sound equally believable.
He is a master manipulator with words. Everything is calculated and scripted through lawyers. People will be leaving regardless of what the term they use.
Can you imagine him breaking up with someone? The person wouldn’t even realize it until they analyzed his words on the drive home after the date. He’s that good.
Of course Aravind make that statement. Anything else would be controversial. Does not mean he will not implement massive PIPs or exit businesses. Neither of these he would consider a reduction in headcount.
They may not reduce headcount, but I fully expect they will exit certain businesses. Just look at intel servers going to Lenovo as your example
