Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Peanut butter cuts of 10% across all organization won't fix the problem.

If you were able to get a 1-1 with Pat, what would propose?

1/ Cut discrete graphics. Over 12 years trying and $1.5 Billion wasted.
2/ Spin off networking business. It is worth more to Broadcom or Marvell then Intel.
3/ Sell programmable logic to PE firm. Use the proceeds to fund IDM 2.0
4/ Drop IDM 2.0, it's pure fantasy. Save $10B and refocus on core cash cow business.
5/ Got any better ideas?

Well at least stop Sandra from doing interviews. The last one with Jon Fortt went off the rails.

In my 1-1 I would recommend we stop being so arrogant in the press and not do so many interviews. Instead stay back at the plant and focus all the troops on solving problems and getting our sh-t together. There will be plenty of time to brag and gloat later if we pull off this IDM 2.0 hail mary.

@1xxj+1jNeZ7Tq Good points by you! Hard to change this. Takes disruptive leader at the top to make disruptive change. Across the board cuts will keep on coming and that turns into a death by 1,000 cuts. If the ones at the top have all the perks, they won't embrace any of this.

Only the Paranoid Survive. Disrupt from within. Hope is not a strategy.

Some of the folks "just along for the ride" saw the train wreck coming a decade ago and made proposals on how to correct course. When the self-ordained leadership chose to discount the "Negative Nancy's" proposals, the only way to cope was to sit back and watch the slow crash with a bag of popcorn. It's like watching a family member slowly destroy their life due to a dr-g addiction.

Who would leave with so many years towards retirement?
And don't the people who contributed to Intel's leadership deserve a decent retirement?

Intel always talks about the future because they don't want anyone looking at the mess they have currently.

@ehm, I think a better question is what ISN’T wrong with NEX?

ARM better mips / watt and wins in mobile (e.g. Apple M processors). ARM multi core for great single threaded performance in multicore parts (e.g. Ampere) in the data center. Hard to see how INTEL pulls out of the nosedive when it can't keep up on process technology, has shrinking gross margins due to increased competition and has too many workers, too many managers and too much focus on DEI.

intel arch/design have no chance against competition without a five year process lead. intel fabs saved them for decades in the past, now they are hopelessly outmatched.

intel allowed itself to be run by stinking indians, this is the end result.

Cut LTD and silicon RD. , Intel spent more money than any other company in silicon over the last decade and for nothing. Went from first to third place, what a waste, fire them all!

Unleash the product and design teams loose and let them use Foundry. They can likely keep up with Nivida and AMD using Intel silicon no chance at all.

Peanut butter cuts might not work but cutting the curry will.

I know this will not be a popular idea with most people, but I think Intel needs to take the Elon Musk approach of whaling and culling as described by a Twitter employee in this thread:

https://twitter.com/oliverbcampbell/status/1593434330843516928

While there are many dedicated hard working Intel employees that are doing their very best every day, their efforts are undermined by folks that are just along for the ride and putting out just enough effort to stay long enough to collect retirement benefits. I am talking managers and IC's alike.

This is only a small part of the problem, but it's a good place to start.

They are cutting across the board. Anywhere from 10 to 50% depending on the group. Some groups are untouched.
