Thread regarding Thomson Reuters layoffs

I'm done fearing layoffs

What's the point? My alternative to cuts is to stay here and be saddled with even more work. I can't take that anymore. They have decided that even if we are already heavily understaffed and have to do the work of two people in the least, we don't have enough to do as individuals. Sc--w that. I'll welcome being laid off over that.

The BS gets worse every year. What’s our motivation to work hard at all? A colleague with decades of experience was laid off and given two weeks. How are you supposed to pass over all that institutional knowledge in two weeks? And why do all those responsibilities fall on the rest of us every time? Why are we expected to take on more work every year with the same pay and laughable (if not insulting) increases?

At this point I’d embrace being fired but there’s been enough talk of not even getting severance after this year. They don’t care about us here.

I'm looking at it as a blessing in disguise

I agree, I was laid off from TR several months ago (likely during a better job market than today), it was super emotional to have lost that part of my identity after so many years, but also a relief to not be there to pick up the pieces and cover for the missing people. I miss working with people I knew so well. The salaries at other places made me so mad I stayed at TR as long as I did.
