Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

Allstate is trying to get out of paying severence

Everyday my team gets emails with new job openings encouraging us to apply. I have never seen anything like it. No, just lay me off, let me collect severence and go to a better company

With these vendors they have pretty much succeeded.

To the last comment, if the job was with allstate I'd be fine with that. However, trying to send us to an unknown company overseas that no one ever has heard of is something different

If they didn't try and keep you and find a job you would be complaining too.

This company can't win at the point

Considering severance is taxed 40%+, is only two weeks per year, and you have to pay medical or COBRA out of pocket this severance does not go far. It is not the grand jackpot or lottery that people seem to think it is.

I can't understand how people offering you a job that will pay you many months is worse than taking severance, worth maybe a few months, followed by no job at all, is allstate trying to trick you

With so many voluntary retirements coming I would think they would have a lot of money to pay a measly severance to the poorly compensated. They sure are cutthroat. Off to the vendor we go!
