Thread regarding DXC Technology layoffs

what happened to the WFR options - are they still there or is DXC hoping the long timers just leave ?

I managed to get a redundancy from DXC ANZ a few years ago (just before ANZ was forced to align with the global 'model'). Walked away with over $100k (after tax), best decision I had made in a while.

What's the chances now of getting a WFR from a friendly manager and moving on?

In the US, you're lucky if you get 8 weeks severance. 2 weeks of that would probably be your normal 'notice', and they'd walk you out the door that day. Not that they need to WFR you anyway, in most states, they can just tell you your services are no longer required, walk you out the door, and pay you nothing beyond your normal paycheck.

It really gets bad when you realize that your health coverage is tied to your job - so now you have basically no health coverage either unless you pay for it yourself, and of course most of the time, they do not cover your health insurance for that 8 weeks, despite telling you for years that your health coverage is part of your total compensation.

And it's not unusual for you to be on a 'contract to hire' basis starting your next position, or there is a 90 day waiting period for benefits, so essentially you have no coverage for 3 months once you DO get something else...so even quitting and moving has issues.

I wish a lot more people over here had the slightest clue about just how much our 'freedom' really costs us.

Depends on local legislation.

I did find out one interesting thing in the UK. They'll ask for candidates to take voluntary redundancy with a bigger payout than for compulsory. They often keep the ones who've asked for voluntary, as compulsory redundancy is cheaper. I applied for voluntary 5 times, and got refused while colleagues who hadn't applied were kicked out. After securing a new role, I didn't bother applying for voluntary, and promptly got kicked out :) At least I got a payout - if I'd just resigned I'd have got nothing.

This is typical of the ethical cesspit called DXC.
