Thread regarding Seagate Technology Inc. layoffs

Star Wars themed HDD

This will get revenue back on track. How many millions did Seagate pay for this? Is this how executive spend their time looking for opportunities to fix the business?

Star Wars HDD? Seriously? Who is the genius behind this marketing strategy?
Young kids these days do not even know that HDD is still around.
Stick with system and cloud instead of focusing on re-branding to appeal to consumers, it's a losing segment for HDD.

“Luke. I am your mother.” - 12TeraBi hard drive would sell like hot cakes, maybe?

Interestingly enuf, hardly any executive time goes into the consumer drives - Star Wars and Spidey and all. That’s why it probably make sense. The execs are busy booking their next biz class flight, wining and dining at F1 races, giving away $$ cheques in the name of Cloud Startup competitions, and quietly promoting their yes men and women. And yes the only work they do is ”fingering” the TAM all year around, so they can finally claim to the board they gained share!!

Always thought of SL as more of a Han Solo, and Shugart s an Obi-Wan.

The SL comment hits home, could totally imagine he is asking.. Maybe he'll step in and take the whole thing private again...

It projects a hologram of the CEO saying "Help me S.L., your our only hope..."

I remember when a certain 72 GB drive from IBM earned the moniker "Death Star."

Not so coincidentally, IBM got out of the hard drive business shortly thereafter.

Drop in the bucket or not, it is just a d-mb thing to put any resources into. The house is on fire so let's spend time thinking about the color to paint the walls

You must be an executive, go do some work and get the company back on track instead of spending time on the layoff board defending your drives that are themed. Or, just go focus on the terrible quality of the actual drives, who cares it is Star wars.

STX has been branding drives forever. In the grand scheme, it's not even a drop in the bucket for cost or profit. Find something else to rag about.
