Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Uncertain times

I'm trying to be as calm as possible and get a new offer ASAP. I'm not too picky when it comes to a new offer, and it's hard a place worse than here. Lately, I've been putting in minimal effort because I think that the manager's favorites will certainly be more protected than hard-worker employees when it comes to cuts. How do you deal with so much uncertainty?

A mangers performance is rated by how their teams deliver.
Don't be too quick to assume they won't cover themselves by keeping stronger performers over any of the social equality quotas or nepotistic selection a lot of simple minded people on here seem to think will get first consideration.

Sometimes one can be mediocre but on a “loved one” project and survive while a high performer on a less se-y project gets the axe. And in a skills-based layoff, someone who claims to have critical skill X may get prioritized over someone who actually has slightly less valuable skill Y. It’s complicated.

Manager jobs is to manage risk to execution and if you are good performer in team it will get noticed and you won’t be touched at all, if you are not a good performer for team/intel then there is no point in keeping you around in this time.. note at the end of day manager has to deliver and if he can’t he will be axed so manager will always look out to save high performer in teams compared to average or low performer
