Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Trends are hard to ignore, the end result layoffs

According to the DigiTimes report, Intel's laptop market share peaked in 2016 at 82.2% (in the same year, AMD had 17.8% of the market). But according to the latest figures from Q2 2022, Intel now owns just 63.5% of the market while AMD has strengthened its position with 36.4%.

Server, desktop, laptop MS eroding and what’s worse? The total volume imploding as well.

In a falling ride no amount of government handouts or talk can change the direction of the titanic

Agree that Intel should get out of the CPU business, at least on the client side. I do most of my daily computing tasks on an iPhone (A15) and an iPad (M1) and get by just fine. I also have a 2015 27” iMac and a PC laptop for more processor intensive tasks; both running Intel processors, an I5 and I7 respectively.

I won’t be needing new computer HW for some time, but when I do, I’ll be looking to Apple.

The iPhone and IPad have been rock solid. But whenever there’s an issue with the iMac or laptop it’ ALWAYS an Intel driver! Especially the WiFi drivers. I won’t buy any computing product with Intel WiFi HW again.

Typical G9+ ignorant that Apple doesn't make servers

I think Intel should get out of the CPU business. We excel at PPT presentations, status reports, and TPS reports, not CPUs.
I have not touched an Intel CPU for over ten years after making grade 9.

Apple made an alternative reality and Intel’s worse nightmare came true. If only Paul hadn’t turned them down, but the arrogance of Intel then and now.

Pat’s represents the best of the arrogance of Intel today, total denial of the competitors and their capabilities will result in total destruction.

Getting an increasingly smaller piece of a shrinking pie is a problem, particularly when efforts to obtain alternative food sources have continually failed.

So what is it most likely sector where a turnaround can be initiated — x86 or beyond-x86? Because of the x86 shrinking pie, you need both to survive long term. However, Intel can’t pull of both simultaneously so Intel has to start with one or the other.

BS numbers if they don’t include Apple.
