Adding a mandatory requirement of employment that wasn't stated at the time of employment fits the definition of bullying and harassment. Then changing your mind as if it never mattered in the first place. Way to go team!

Check into your local laws regarding workplace bullying/harassment. If HR hasn’t addressed it, file. Emotionally unstable people should not be inflicting mental abuse to employees. There are workmans comp laws about harassment. This isn’t normal, report it.

Thank you to the empathetic leader that replied. This is horrible to experience and leaders should pave the way for more positive experiences. Mental health is important and this should not be acceptable.

I have been on both sides, both experiencing this as a individual contributor and now I am in leadership role to hopefully pave the way for empathetic leaders who understand the role in its entirety, (having done it for many years), and support and advocate for my team. I personally recommend if you feel this has occurred to discuss with your manager. If they are the ones doing this, escalate to their superior, and hotline if anonymously.
