Thread regarding Ford layoffs

I SMELL LAWSUITS

Since when do poor performers volunteer to leave their gravy jobs?!

Why aren't the management teams doing their jobs, documenting poor performance and canning the poor performers without a golden ticket?????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep, I can see a lawyer making a case that Ford management sees the economic writing on the wall that there will have to be deep future cuts to survive, or perhaps in preparation to sell out to VW, and as a favor to certain previously well performing individuals (IE those on the family & friends plan) were falsely ranked as poor performing in order to give them a false "shape up or ship out on our dime" offer.

@2qef how true! The cuts starting in 2019 systematically took out all our best performers. The interesting thing is that the best performers were also the ones who took the time to help new hires and train others. The less capable people guard what little knowledge they have and refuse to help others. As a result new hires quit quickly. In addition those with 3-6 years in that were getting mentored are all quitting because there is no one left to truly learn from. Their envisioned Ford career trajectory ground to a halt when Ford management culled the best performers (or in their eyes the over-paid employees).
Of course the inept boot-licking perceived management track employees continue to multiply. Why is it that HR can’t figure out that the skilled worker to management track employees should be 1 to 100 instead of 95 management track to 5 skilled workers?

You just keep thinking people who are not poor performers cannot sue! Lawyers can use ALL sides to prove a case!

Not a troll, not true, caring about others performance. Worked with MANY slackers over the years, who were NEVER put on performance plans or dealt with. Instead, they were shuffled around, or even worse, promoted!
This last round of SIRPs took out some very GOOD performers. Strangely, many fit into the category of nearing retirement, or building up their funds for retirement.
Perhaps YOU are one of the poor-performers this hit home with!

Lawsuit? For what? Ya gonna sue for not being identified as a poor performer?

"Since when do poor performers volunteer to leave their gravy jobs?" - this statement is so full of half-truths that only a troll would make it.

  1. In my 30 years of work experience, the vast majority of "poor performers" are NOT people who refuse to make an effort and are looking for a "gravy job".
  2. Most poor performers are classified as such because:
    a. The manager is forced to put people into the low bucket regardless of actual real performance. E.G. Jack Welsh "rank and yank" vitality curve.
    b. A manager puts someone into a job without proper training or having the skills and creates a setup to failure.
    c. Manager sets unrealistic expectations e.g. fantasy delivery dates.
    d. Favoritism and cronyism results in elevation of some at expense of others to look "balanced" to higher-ups.

I have had it. If vssp not opening for all, I will never buy a ford again. Ditto that for my very large extended family, I will speak to them all and explain this nonsense going on.

The issue of PRs not being accurate because some manager protect favorites, etc. IS NOT UNIQUE to Ford Motor Company! It happens everywhere and PRs are very hard to do fairly unless you're a production line employee where everyone does the same thing over and over again. As for laying off the most expensive people, I was let go from Ford in August, (still looking for work) and if managment had come to me and said "we can't afford to continue paying what you're making, will you accept a cut instead of being in a layoff", I would have agreed! Better than being unemployed. This was never offered obviously. Eventually, they will have to replace me and incur all the expense involved. Layoffs make no business sense unless the company absolutely can't meet payroll! Its bad business for many reasons.

NOT getting the chance to take the money. Only poor performers get the option. Not true: (If you take the money you are not going to be suing anyone.)

@viq 100% Our area keeps targeting the highest performers which are also the best paid. The discussion in LL6 meetings with our LL5 in the past month has been if Joe makes 150K and Sam makes 100K prove to me that Joe does 50% more work than Sam.
We were asked for candidates with declining performance and no one speaks up in the meeting. Outside of the meeting some of the LL6 are putting forth the names of GSRs under another LL6 as candidates. It is clear from the LL5 that the ideal candidate is an older worker, highly compensated, who is no longer willing to put in tons of uncompensated casual OT.

The problem over the years has been that PRs are a work of fiction. The LL5 can’t tell the difference between one GSR whose PR is total BS and another GSR who only wrote down a fraction of what they accomplished. LL6s try to protect their own fiefdom and never admit that one of their GSR is useless. So they keep hiring more and more people to make up for the useless. It is the Ford culture.

The answer is simple. As a multiple TAer that was SIRP'd I can tell you the I made a lot more money than my peers who were just skating by. My managers rewarded me well over the years, giving me sizable raises and 135% of bonus.

So I got cut because cutting me saved more money than cutting a poor performer! That's where this company is at. Keep the poor performers because they are cheaper.

This VSSP is a sham. They'll claim "we tried voluntaries but no one took them!" Then they'll cut the highest compensated again, even though those are their best performers.

Open your eyes.

But why didn’t Ford take the occasion to rid itself of all these so-called poor performers when they cut thousands back in August?

Why didn’t Ford follow its own precedent and offer voluntaries before involuntary’s?

If you’ve been around for a while you know (we all know) some of the poor performers over the years. Why weren’t they addressed many years ago and along the way?

Look at all the embarrassing leadership clown-foolery that has happened this year.
Why would company leadership create and allow such bad PR, horrible optics, and ill will?

This company is adrift in a sea incompetence and arrogance. Yeah, keep pretending its just business as usual at the top levels…

I guess if you are truly a poor performer, then the company will reward you with a package to retire or leave the company at the. Poor performers shall be terminated immediately.

This is what I call poor management at Ford.

Agree in principle. But What if they are documenting you?

You are just mad because you are retiring without a package. You don't give a fu-k about anyone else's job performance.
