Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Do the right thing!!!!

Here is the problem:
Imagine two 30 year employees sit next to each other at Ford. One, always a great employee and the other always a marginal/poor employee.
Assume each had equal pay, benefits, and pension.
Here we are in 2022 and the company is jettisoning employees and both are retirement eligible but the poor performer will be rewarded and made nine months of salary richer on the way out as an enticement to leave.
That is the shame of it. What are we to make of such a company for not having dealt with (fired) the poor performer over the years. Situation is F’d up.

People offered the severance WON’T be able to come back (or work for suppliers of FMC) afterwards. However, the GOOD & LOYAL will have the ability to come in (maybe as contract, part-time) in some capacity in their future if/when FMC emerges from this mismanaged fog.

"Then at 35 years + one day ... retire. You'll still end up financially further ahead than the employee who was given only 9 months salary"

If you're taking the monthly pension, I agree. If you're taking the lump-sum, depending on your age, this may not be a better strategy.

I wouldn't be bothered if you're not offered the 9 months severance plg. I suspect your mgmt is pushing back discreetly behind closed doors in order to keep you on staff. I can't count the number of times I saw mgrs chose one employee over another during the 2019 SRDs. If it happens to you then simply bank as much $$$ as you can - while you get as close to your 35 year milestone as you can. Then at 35 years + one day ... retire. You'll still end up financially further ahead than the employee who was given only 9 months salary.

Consider the millions of dollars the company is paying out in golden parachutes to the precious LL’s. Remember how they attempted to sc--w the GSR’s with their profit bonuses this year. No voluntaries, and the letting go of many who were nearing pension eligibility.

When I started at ford, a veteran employee said “ if you do the work they pay you, if you don’t do the work they pay you…what are you going to do?” ….or if you want a raise quit work early for the day…haha!!!!!!
