Thread regarding IBM layoffs

IBM lays out its future with federal and state partnerships

Take note where IBM is saying it’s future lies Semiconductors, mainframe, AI and quantum. The only legacy moving forward is mainframe and it’s future evolution. Everything else must go as the world has already found alternative solutions.

This is on top of IBM’s announcement on Monday of combining Redhat storage and legacy storage into one entity. SW defined is obviously the future and IBM doesn’t care about what HW is involved as it’s moved to commodity.

What does the future hold for Power? Most likely just the “niche” enterprise ERP offerings, with possibly an AI (think performance) aspect.

IBM sold EF and BTV, because they couldn’t drive the volumes needed for a 5 billion dollar fab to pay for itself, much less staff it. Better to outsource the fabrication and put the saved money into high performance designs. You have seen this on the new Mainframe chip and new Power 10 design. NICHE market places Low volumes but ultra high performance.

If Semi-Conductors are the future, then why did IBM Management sell ... excuse me, PAY someone $1.5B to haul away our Fabs in Burlington, VT and East Fishkill, NY like garbage??? Total Management Incompetence ... IBM = Incompetent Baastaards (and Biiitches) become Managers 😒
