AT&T, Verizon, it's all the same. They also have layoffs all the time, they also have managers who don't give a damn about anything other than enriching themselves, and they are also always looking for ways to cut costs through any means, including reducing benefits and foregoing bonuses. It's all the same cr-p. If you want a better job where you might be treated better, you might want to leave the entire industry.

@1knz+1iy7hYiO Verizon's voluntary offer in 2018 was a once in a lifetime thing. They wanted to quickly unload a bunch (13,000+) of mostly retirement eligible people across the company and this was the way to sweeten the pot. I'm sure they knew that with the economy as it was at the time, most (who were eligible for pension) would take a lump sum and get that pension obligation off the books as well. Don't forget they also sold 2000 IT employees to India company Infosys at the same time. Those people were not eligible for the enhanced offer. It was go to Infy or be terminated without severance. About 500 of them fought back (again mostly retirement eligible) and also walked away with the enhanced offer because of the company's bad timing in their strategy. The rest went to Infosys. The point is, these companies are all about making money and employees are commodities. HR can preach all they want about valuing their employees, but it's really all lip service. Today's young people know better than to plant all their eggs in one basket. They spent 5 or 6 years per company beefing up their resume and moving on. There are no cradle to grave jobs anymore.
No they’re not the same, when VZ layedoff a large no of employees about few years ago, they offered 3 weeks with benefits per year of service. Sprint which had layoffs every six months offered severance with benefits, not like TMO which capped their severance at 6 months with no benefits.
I thought TMUS was the uncarrier! I would think they would do the opposite of Att and VZ.
VZ doing layoffs makes sense. Hans almost bankrupt Ericsson. He plans on making all the way to bankruptcy with VZ. Then he will take his golden parachute and move on to the next victim.
Spent 18 years in telecom in various capacities . Was a great and interesting technical experience, cutting edge of everything, made a lot of pals, lot of esprit de corps, learned a lot but it’s a meat grinder compared to other industries. Because it takes so many technical people and the margins are so razor thin everyone becomes cattle except for the pets of upper mgmt. never going back!!
