Im an engineer, and I'm thinking about retiring next year, can't get a straight answer from HR regarding what benefits and discounts I will get until I'm eligible. I don't have any att services so discounts won't matter. What can I expect when I leave? Anyone recently retired? Thanks in advance!

The company must honor their policy of a free retirement gift along with up to $500 party with meal. Doesnt matter if your boss doesnt like it. Your boss is not required to attend but a manager with a corp credit card (P card) must attend and pay for party and dinner.
Take 20 of your favorite people to Golden Corral! Everyone gets what they want and get their bellies clear full. Even if you don't want a free diner, do it out of spite! You won't regret it.

I find the obsession with this fascinating. Are people that cheap to where a free meal is so irresistible that you will sit with people you genuinely don't like or at least care to spend any time with outside of work for a few hours?

The numbers will be different for each individual situation.
Probably the most accurate info will be to call Fidelity and give them your projected last day of employment and let them do the cyphering (Jethro reference), or go on the website and leave a message for them to call you.
They are the ones that handle almost all of the retirement financial stuff and they would have the most correct info. I retired in Feb and they were absolutely fantastic (again, FANTASTIC, can't say enough good things about their service) in their handling of my accounts.

been to two companies since I left and would go back to the two companies in a flash no way in he-l would I go back to att.
att is not normal and there are so many better ran companies you won't regret leaving.

Thanks everybody for the feedback, I appreciate it. Honestly, I'm in a position now that has me debating whether or not to ride it out for another year, yes it's that bad. Thinking about finding another job and immediately rolling the pension into the 401. Since the pension will be the only thing heading out the door, I'm looking for another job, still too young to hang up my hat.
You're non bargained for, so your answer is basically "nothing". You needed to retire before end of last year to keep any subsidized pre- Medicare health insurance. There is nothing else that you can't do better elsewhere (as someone off the street) on.
They are so gracious as to allow you the optional privilege of paying full price for medical insurance. Again, you'll do better elsewhere.
Forgot to mention that if you've saved your money or if not plan to work elsewhere - being gone from at&t is the best present you could give yourself & family.
I firmly believe that leaving that toxic environment of back stabbing, brown nosing, know nothing upper managment, lazy occupationals with the daily CYAing activities saved my life.

I took a lump sum and spent about $1500 on my retirement dinner & drinks in Las Vegas. Invited friends, family and a few new neighbors. I think my boss picked up some of the cost and I paid for my travel.
The only thing I buy from at&t is $10 ---- a month 25mbs internet.
There is no savings buying anything else from at&t - Just look.
Hint: 1. Mint Mobile, Google Voice, Sling TV.
A generous pension, retirement gift, and retirement party ($500) limit. That's it! Enjoy!
