Thread regarding MetLife Inc. layoffs

If we all get 3% or less does that mean MetLife is quit firing all of us?

In a now-viral LinkedIn post, Dilber listed the signs an employee is being “quietly fired,” which is often linked to poor management.

“You don’t receive feedback or praise, you get raises of 3% or less while others are getting much more, your 1:1s are frequently canceled or shuffled around,” she wrote.

High performers do receive greater than 3%. Makes you wonder how many need a reality check on their actual competence, as the low raises they receive aren't a glaring indicator. It's the passive aggressive managers to fault, as they will sugarcoat by saying everyone receives 1%.

Guys … let’s make sure MetLife doesn’t get on any of the “great places to work” lists. It’s not.

I left the company as a director to another director role in another big household name. Literally every possible thing that could be better is better.

More salary. Higher bonus target (cash) and high equity target. Better management and people that valued me.

The annual review process in MetLife is corrupt

Global Corporate CEOs have public statements about the Queen's passing, but not this one here. Guess the Queen doesn't meet the stringent DEI criteria to get an honorable mention, but hey let's go Liverpool. #priorities

Same here, quietly quiting and quietly being fired. And I know two others in the same boat. Terrible leadership that has no clue how to support and develop people.

The article speaks to what I'm living so well. I was a high performer in an old role but leadership in my new role is a train wreck. So it's combo for me - quietly quitting and probably quietly being fired. No one cares otherwise so why should I?

They are addressing low scores for the "One Voice" survey earlier this year except for the "feeling valued" low score. Why, because they don't care!

@1qsb+1iwCHpYY - I think I solved your riddle. The safe area that has nothing to do with business success but rather business failure must be the IT Security Group.

They seem to be able to do anything they want, with no notice. Take away your access. Change rules for getting access. Take away your access to gmail and certain internet sites.

All they have to do is say "it's for security" and no one can do anything.

I saw a recent post where people can't receive secure email from customers that they used to receive because it requires being able to access a web site that is marked as "email" an shut down.

Oh, sure, they'll eventually get access, but not until they convene a tribunal and write a b.s. "finding".

To get more people or more money, all the security group has to do is paint a picture of what horrible things could happen if they don't.

But, they never count the cost of their "work" on the common employee just trying to get its job done.

So, yeah, the answer to the riddle must be security.

Do I win?

The LinkedIn post is exactly what ML does. ML has a position posted and the salary is $40k LESS than other companies for a similar position. $40K LESS! There is NOTHING SPECIAL about ML that would justify anyone applying for that job. It makes me laugh, ML thinks they are special and a that is a privilege to work for. Maybe if you just arrived off a bus from Texas…The pay for this position is entry level but they are looking for and experienced person. ML is delusional.

I see peers being quietly fired (for years on end, mind you!) and shame on their bosses. Either pull the trigger and let them go or take steps to help them succeed. Keeping them on the fence does nobody any good and is wasting the precious budget.

Terminations will happen by years end. There is only one area safe and it has nothing to do with business success, but rather business failure.

I would love if my 1:1s were regularly cancelled. It's usually my manager complaining about our budgets getting cut again anyway.
