Thread regarding Ford layoffs

What state to file unemployment benefits?

I was let go in late April; I was hired in June 2022 and lived in Michigan at the time, but moved out of state since that time.

Do I file unemployment with state of Michigan (since Ford’s HQ is there and I started work there) or the state I am living in now? How does this work exactly??

Correction: it goes by where you work not where you live.

It goes by where you live, not where you work. The poster who worked in Dearborn but lives on Ohio must file in Michigan. (If they were a true telecommuter paying state tax to OH instead of MI, they would file in OH)

If OP was working in MI, got laid off in MI and then moved out of state, they file in MI. If they moved and then got laid off, they should first try the state with the highest benefit amount. All states will have a process for people who worked in multiple states. It is possible you will end up having to file in the state where you worked the longest.

Michigan because that is where Ford (not you) pays unemployment tax.

I’m still trying to understand the OP’s post. Let go in April but hired June 2022?

@uqm+1ivdKe6C Laptop clicking snowflake? Sounds like deflection. Must be an LL6 who can’t justify their job without breathing down their teams neck. No PowerPoints to put together?

I worked in Dearborn and lived in Sylvania, OH. I would like to know where to apply unemployment.

  1. You paid unemployment insurance to MI so that is where you collect.

I believe you file for Unemployment in the state where you reside.
