Thread regarding AIG (American Intl Group Inc.) layoffs

It is interesting and sad to see just how the system works at AIG

Every quarter we hear about great progress and billions in premium. Every quarter the board authorizes AIG share buybacks to the tune of billions of dollars. The stock pops for a few weeks. Executives sell their shares on the highs and make millions. It is public record if you care to look. Then the stock craters again.

But then when it comes STI, promo time sorry we just cannot make money at AIG. We really have to watch our expenses. Just be happy you still have a job and here is your 2%. That translates to we would rather boost our stock prices so we can make our profits rather than give you a livable wage. But thanks for working so hard, we really appreciate your efforts.

Executives are either naive or too full of themselves to realize that the average employee sees what you are doing. And you want us to go above and beyond. I don't think so pal.

I would disagree with the post defending the Robber Barton’s using the employees without appropriate compensation as a result of high performance.

The statement “ must admit, I am confused. You accepted an offer to do a job in exchange for a salary and a set of benefits. That is all any company you join owes you for doing your job to the best of your abilities. Why do you think you are entitled to anything more?”

Well, when you signed on you agreed to work X# of hours for a certain pay and the recruiters indicate merit raises etc.

Who agreed to do the best that they could?
That is a personal work ethic issue and you are assuming part of the employment agreement…..hmmmm
So if doing your best is an assumed part of the employment contract, isn’t it a two way street that the Company, as represented, in fact, by upper management bound to the same assumption that they will do their best for the Company and the Employees?

Also, our job descriptions with added responsibilities are constantly changing requiring more an more responsibility to be assumed and more tasks to be accomplished by the employee . So, yes , it is unfair when you have folks like Pirate Pete and his band of Marauders getting huge benefits for producing no tangible positive results.

They constantly reduce the workforce and we have assume more work an more responsibility with no increase.

As employees leave in a unit, whether on their own or by having their jobs off shored, it hurts us all.
If a person leaves and is not replaced, that persons work is spread out to the rest of the team……
Yet every other week a new Assistant to the Assistant to the Assistant of the Assistant Vice President is hired for big bucks.

Fire the Upper Management Team and find some that will actually do their job and Make AIG Great Again!

If you don’t think that you are being treated fairly, then you should move to a different company that pays you more and treats you better. Unless you can’t find another company willing to pay you more. In which case you really are being treated fairly.
