Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Between trying to make it to retirement and wanting to leave

It is quite obvious that the older you are, regardless of how skilled and knowledgeable you are, it is very likely that you will be a target in the case of cuts. On the other hand, it is difficult to start from scratch with 50+. How close to retirement is it still worth trying to find something new and leaving Dell?

OP - I left Dell in May 2021 after 21 years. I knew it was time, and my spidey senses told me there were going to be layoffs in August 2021. I was spot on. The job market is hot right now, I've been happy working for a national SI, and I've got a number of companies calling me weekly to come work for them. Take advantage of the timing and ride it out until retirement. I'm so much happier than my last few years at Dell. Good luck!

Find reasons to like your job. Make your job enjoyable even if others make it miserable. The only valid reason for jumping to another job is your paycheck, or being abused by the company.

No it is not. If you keep honing you skills it is not. For coasters it is.

Only you can answer that question. A new job stresses everyone out to some degree. Bottom line: Do whatever is going to help you get across the finish line with the least amount of pain. Good luck!

How much time do you have? Do you watch the clock? You never know when the time comes regardless of age. Million are gone .
