Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

Centene getting rid of bonuses for low level employees

If you got a bonus before but your not a manager you won't get a bonus next year. They are supposed to increase pay to make up for it.

Does not make any sense to me. Take the bonus away from the staff that are more than likely barley getting by? Job titles changed in January with no pay increase, was told “the pay is fair for our job duties” then combined with another team who does a completely different job.

I was given a job title change with a $1/hr raise starting in JAN 2024. I was a referral specialist now I'm a authorization research specialist. I was told that certain people decided after 8 years with the company I didn't need a bonus any longer. My job "promotion" and "raise" is just a disguise to justify taking my bonus. That's deceiving to me. Instead of a lump some I would get in March I now get it in drips over 28 paychecks. That's deceiving to me. If this "raise" is my bonus $2240 before taxes. My bonus last year was $3500 before taxes. I'm losing over $1000. That's deceiving to me. As the company prospers will I receive another "raise" or "promotion" in 2025 as a bonus? My internet stipend(it used to be called reimbursement)was taken away starting 2024 also. I'm surrounded by external employees, I've survived 2 layoffs so far. The writing is on the wall. Centene wants to get rid of us type of workers. Like the previous post says don't quit make them fire us unless something better comes along. I started in 2015 and the company actually gave us 2 tickets to Islands of Adventure, gift card to use in the park. One of the best days I had. We have fallen tremendously since then. Thank you for listening to me complain. I know my manager by now hates when I bring this up.

For 2024, no more bonus, insurance went up, they took away holidays (remember good friday which became like spring holiday or something and then turned into a floating holiday and has now been fully taken away. Because it was a christian holiday? Is christmas next?) and now new years eve is down to a half day. When we first went home they said we were all getting an extra 100 for use of our personal phones and internet for work purposes and that only lasted 2 months of which i never saw (i checked) and then that turned to you had to submit a request for that reimbursement and only request it that then morphed into now you have to submit a copy of your bill to now even that's going away altogether. Our old building, most areas are turned off and restricted, saving on water, lights, not to mention no need to supply plates, plasticware, napkins, toilet paper or soap, copy paper, toner, office supplies. the list can go on and on. I also heard they were planning on renting out parts of the building. Now that people are no longer in the building, they're no longer needing to supply holiday meals as part of employee appreciation nor things they used to do like pizzas, donuts, breakfast tacos, etc or the employee appreciation day with the carnival like games (don't know what other regions got). Additionally, amid the highest point of covid cases, when texas froze and several places lost power, they initially paid out those days as office closure and suddenly the next paycheck it changed to covid something or other when the power outages had NOTHING to do with covid making me suspect that they realized they could get reimbursed what they paid out of company pocket by claiming some sort of covid related emergency since the government was doling out covid money at the time. Wondering if that's even legal but whatevs. Go back and check your paychecks for that time. Not sure if this happened across all of the Texas locations or just at our great state capital. Not to mention the layoffs that happened mid 2023. So cutting costs all over the place and maybe even possibly not quite legal maneuvers (speculation on my part as I don't know how the covid funding was meant to work) but yet, managers or whatever level and higher are NOT losing their bonuses.... I mean, what else to say. Wow. Just wow. I'm sure I've forgotten a few things. Feel free to add to the list.

They think we are really stupid (which I guess I am for working for this greedy company). HR literally said that by the time the 2023 bonuses are paid out we will have forgotten that we used to get bonuses.

Supervisors and above will continue to get the bonus …. But those that do the actual work will not …. They don’t care about us … it’s just a job people … those that do leave because of this will just be replaced by a person paid less and they won’t get a bonus that they didn’t know existed and will be happy therefore we are replaceable with ppl willing to do our jobs for less …. It’s about making sure they win and we lose …. Do not quit …. Let them lay us off if cannot afford us and at least we get something out of this nightmare…. Severance and then a chance to make more elsewhere and make sure we hurt their pockets with joining their rivals

So out goes the bonus, in comes the increase . So in 2023 you still get that bonus , will we still get up to 3 percent raise in 2023? Will ever year after the loss of corporate bonus , only be up to a 3 percent raise? If that’s the case it’s way less then a corporate yearly bonus of up to 6 percent, correct? Somewhere in this corporate decision it’s not beneficial to anyone except the corporate bigwigs.

Is this a Centene wide initiative or only certain legacy businesses? I’m seeing indications that tell me someone already had this applied but it’s not the standard CNC review cycle yet. Makes sense that it would apply at October for 2023 going forward since goal/bonus KPI are usually based on Q4 prior year (or Q1) to Q3 current (since review cycle is end of year process). I’m unaware of groups still off cycle (but my exposure is limited at this point).

When the last little old lady goes bankrupt, the tree is cut, the last fish is caught, and the last river is polluted; when the air is too sickening to breathe. Centene will realize, too late, that wealth is not in bank accounts and that you can't eat money.

At the annual they basically just figured out how much more they wanted to give me for the year and subtracted the bonus amount to figure the % of raise (and I was exceeds expectations).

It doesn't feel like a bonus when they use it to keep your base rate lower which keeps overtime rate lower and keeps you at a lower price point when looking for promotions / new job outside the company.

I much prefer to see the base rate increase than a fake looking bonus.

They give , they get. Watch they will increase our health insurance above 5 percent next year. Just like they give us raises every year only to raise our insurance and take it back and then some!!!

Fun Fact- a 5% increase on what most of us make is a little over $2000.00 a year, a $1.49 an hour increase, and a little over $100.00 a pay period increase! AKA- Cr-p!
We are all so happy for you though (••)!

Fun fact! At the higher end, 6% bonus comes out to much less than a 5% merit increase since bonuses are taxes at around 40%. I would take the merit increase any day. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Seems like a really cr---y thing to do to a workforce who were told to work from home immediately because of Covid and they saved you money grubbing id--ts from disaster by continuing to carry your water in that extremely hard situation.

It includes L and below. They get their bonus for 2022 (in 2023, as usual). Thereafter, no bonus.

I forget when the raise kicks in, but if it happens soon enough, that higher salary will
be used to calculate your final bonus payout.

Most Below grade “L” are making 60k or less so what the he-l is a 5%raise going to do if no bonus is being offered?! That’s a measly 2K raise!

What would have been respectable is like a 5k bump for everyone below K, then start w/ the 5%/ no bonus cr-p! What a joke!

this is not accurate. those folks WILL be eligible for a bonus in 2023. and it’s not managers and above it’s a certain job grade (L?) or above. 5% raise for the affected folks if hired before 11/1/21, 2% if hired after that date. no bonus eligibility starts in 2024.
