Thread regarding Avaya layoffs

August 26 2022 Reduction In Force Notes

**IF YOU WERE IMPACTED on 8/26/22, PLEASE Consider the Following:

  1. Share on this thread your REGION (Geography) , DEPARTMENT , YEARS OF SERVICE
  2. Take Notice of the NAMES AND AGES (in US) of the people named on the WARN ACT listing on Page 2 of your Notification Letter. That will give you an indication of who in the group remains vs who was impacted.
  3. DON'T SIGN ANYTHING until after careful review and consultation with family, friends and legal counsel if possible. Just take at least a week to gather yourself before signing any agreement.
  4. FILE FOR UNEMPLOYMENT IN YOUR STATE (US) IMMEDIATELY. They often make you serve a mandatory wait period. They also won't begin to pay you until you have a week with no Avaya pay. Just do yourself a favor and begin the application process immediately before you do anything else.
  5. Follow @AvayaLayoffs on Twitter for sharing and insight from your fellow ex-Avayan's
  6. Know you are NOT ALONE and you are VALUABLE and OFF TO BIGGER AND BETTER!

Use this interactive site to know what the laws are for your state regarding final paychecks. Some states require immediate payment of final pay. Others require immediate payment, but only if you request it (Idaho, for example)

https://www.clicktime.com/resources/hr/final-paycheck-laws-by-state

Another example, Colorado has unique laws:
"Immediately, meaning within 6 hours of the start of the next working day if the payroll unit is closed when termination occurs, or within 24 hours if the payroll unit is offsite. Also, the employer will be fined for each day they dont pay, and have to pay the employee every day until employee recieves final pay"

What was included in your severance pay? Also what product did you support?

I was laid off July 13 and held position of senior technical engineer.
Strange, my prime accounts were reassigned to new engineers in Argentina.
I had 4 prime accounts and they were reassigned to 3 different engineers in Argentina.
I did get my raise and bonus last year so why was I picked? Could it be I am 70 years old?
I supported one major account for 13 years and never had an issue.
I did receive my severance pay today, and happy I did.
It is such a shame so many great people will get cut!

"Substantial cuts"

It would make sense to try to get some relief off of the books before months end. I would imagine they would try to at least begin layoffs in areas they are confident about by mid-next week, yet respect it is an overwhelming task and many moving parts to get this layoff engine up and running.

Via the Newark Star-Ledger, Avaya is laying off 400 people, after also
eliminating 600 positions via attrition since the start of the year.

I think that is very low... At $85M/Qtr burn rate, they have enough cash to get to Dec. That translates to 1500-2000 headcount annually...

Sept 15th is a big date for Avaya and their lenders...
