Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

Disconnected from Reality

Anyone else completely disgusted by this afternoon’s Property-Liabilty Connections meeting with Glenn, Mario & Julie?

As leaders across PL are sharing very upsetting news about our future vending plans and the possibility of many losing their jobs, the same day our most senior leaders thought it would be a grand idea to hold a meeting where they reminisce about their careers, share their favorite music genres and all but high 5 each other for Transformative Growth. All while your staff sat in complete horror and disbelief.

How disconnected! How inconsiderate! How blind can they be?! I was so embarrassed for them and so disappointed. It was shameful!

What a missed opportunity to role modeling how leaders pivot and show compassion and empathy. Rather than acknowledge the elephant in the room, they swept it under the rug as if they knew nothing about the ‘big announcements’ that started today.

To all of our leaders - we see you. We see how much you care, we see how you’re not only leading and supporting your teams, but each other, and all while coping with your own situation. Just because Glenn, Mario & Julie epically failed and missed an opportunity today to do the same, know that we all know how hard this is and applaud you for doing what’s right for our employees.

Shame on you, Glenn, Mario & Julie. Thank you for piling onto what was already a complete cluster of a day - appreciate the additional layer of BS we’re left to clean up. I’m quite frankly tired of cleaning up after you!

You truly owe your staff an apology - do better!

Leadership lessons from arguably ineffective transformation leaders seems pointless. You could reasonably argue that Julie is part of the problem. Nice-yes. Smart-likely. Point person for PL-not great. Tried to convince employee group that the transition was planned and orderly. Don't kid yourself. No Academy Award for Glenn the movie buff, even as he tried to politely play along. Will the game plan here change, or simply new leadership to execute on TG?

Why did Glenn need to share he worked 5:30am -8:30am on the weekends before his kid waked up? You are leaving Allstate, no one cares how much you worked. Totally inappropriate. Once again another pointless meeting.

Another example of the executive class of the U.S. being totally disconnected from reality from the rest of us peons. What, he can't afford his daughter's wedding when he earns $5M a year! What about those of us earning $60K or less? Hold a wedding reception at the local McDonald's drive-thru? LOL!

Also, the insurance industry has really deteriorated--primarily because of clowns like Allstate leadership. I don't know why anyone would want to have a "career" in this cesspool. So glad I got out when I did.

The OP expresses my feelings exactly! It's unbelievable they could have a meeting like that while at the same time pushing out the "talking points" to be distributed via huddles on the service side on the same day.

I have not felt Sr leadership cared for a long time, but that PL meeting took it to another level.

Where did these “big announcements” come from? I just watched the Brady bunch chat and they didn’t say anything?

“ I can’t retire as my youngest daughter is getting married”. You make 5 million a year, have advanced degree from U of C and are CFO. How can that be articulated to struggling employee base?
