Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Cut

I got mine this morning. Power steering engineering so not ICE work directly. I got 1 month severance.

Ford also says I can never work for them again. Contractor or otherwise, too. I was a year away from vesting my 401k match, which was roughly half of my retirement savings since I just started my career, so I don't think I'm getting the match now or ever.

For the people lamenting that they can't go back to Ford after being let go:
Why would you want to?

And, for that matter, why would you EVER consider purchasing a Ford product in the future?
I was let go as a contract employee in Dec of '20 with a 10:00 pm phone call on a Friday night, right before Christmas.
Totally classless.
Due to this, along with Ford's abysmal quality, I NEVER recommend Ford products to people who ask me for advice on their next vehicle purchase.
In fact, I emphatically recommend that they steer clear of Ford products, no matter how the deal might be sweetened with 0% financing or whatever.
And a lot of people ask me, knowing that I have worked as an engineer for several car companies.
Think of the number of potential customers just one employee influences.
Then multiply that by the number of employees being jettisoned.
That's a lot of customers who won't be shopping for a Ford in the future.
Better to jettison the dead weight CEO and use his salary and bonus to keep the employees, and shore up quality.

Everytime they do a cut, they tell everyone u can't work for Ford, or as agency....but give it a year, and you can come back as agency....trust me! Seen it way too many times!

If Ford pays you to leave, then Ford probably won't hire you back in the future if you are old enough. I have been with GM and FCA. This is very common.
They will hire back some young people. Those young people were let go to cover up the age discrimination.

" They will throw you away when they don't need you no matter what you did for them." So it is like a (bad) marriage?

Time for everyone at the big three to re evaluate your careers. For auto manufactures to TO go EV you gotta cut to the bone because the masses cant afford em. Yes it will take 5 years maybe more and they wont need anyone. The future is AI.... sorry Trump would have stoped this shi.

@qdh You should read up on the WARN act. It only applies to very specific situations and numbers (or percentages in a specific site) laid off. All companies strive to fall below reporting numbers when they do layoffs. HR and Legal take great care in making sure the laws are followed... and they are.
Severance? Even if a notice was given 6 months in advance... the company 'owes' nobody a severance. Period. Anything you get, in exchange for basically signing a general release for the company, of course... is something the company has offered. It isn't something they OWE you or anyone.

One month severance? How about WARN ( 2 months notice mandatory by the state of Michigan for big layoff). That should give 3 months severance?

Why can’t you work for ford again? That doesn’t sound like a laid off?

So Ford doesn't need your expertise and even if you learn something new can't come back.
Sounds like s family indeed.
Man .... those of you staying at Ford where did you go to school
I don't want to send my kids there....

With only 1 month severance, just don’t take it or sign the agreement. Then you can work wherever you want. Don’t let Ford determine your livelihood.

Sorry. You have to understand that this is a JOB at a for profit company and not a marriage. They will throw you away when they don't need you no matter what you did for them. That's why I want to start my own business. No one can fire me then! Creative destruction read joseph schumpeter.

Don't worry so much about that 401k money. Everyone has been losing their butts since Jan 2022 anyways. Just means you'll lose less.

Unless, you were smart enough to sit out Jan 2022. Those people lost zero while the market collapsed. Ford, 25 down to $15. Still more down to go.
