A colleague who left scared me a little when he told me about his initial experiences at the new company. He had to make a huge effort in the beginning because it turned out that he needed to significantly upgrade his skills, even though he thought he had an excellent and relevant skillset. Anyone else realized how much their skills have atrophied after leaving here? Any advice on how to keep skills relevant so as to not find ourselves in an awkward situation when starting a new job?

The only people who would be surprised by the real world outside of Sh|thole are those who don't bother to stay apprised of technology trends and don't make the effort to keep learning. Sh|thole is only for those who wish to stay irrelevant and accept low pay for doing almost nothing. I know many like that.
Change is inevitable; growth is optional.
More than half of dxc'ers will not get any offers from outside based on merit. Because the team has forgotten to do work and really technically behind. More than anything else, if you go outside, you have to do real work.
I can’t say significantly, but other companies do maintain professional qualifications and external training and exams that you probably won’t be used to under DXC. I don’t think it’s a big problem if you have the right attitude, as they will usually fund what you need providing it helps and is relatable to the role. The only thing they may do is ask you to stay for a year to ensure their investment sees some return. But I have never known any to enforce it or even people to abuse it.
