Thread regarding Capital One layoffs

No room for growth

I'm about to leave this place just out of pure frustration. I feel like I'm just wasting my time, because no matter how hard I try, I can't get a promotion. The manager only makes empty promises.
How many people here managed to progress with their hard work and commitment alone? Is progress reserved for brown nosers only?

From my decades of observations, these are spot on assessments. I had so much work and credit stolen over the years. Designing and implementing solutions for groups who would take and take and let others solve their problems and then be too busy to even bother providing feedback for the awful, never ending performance management. The reasons for this behavior was twofold. One, giving credit where credit is due would mean they would not be able to take credit for the work themselves. Two, they realized that performance management was a worthless waste of time and people were going to be rated on popularity and the sham cross calibration process. Why waste time trying to help somebody else out when it would only take away from your own list of accomplishments? No such thing as teamwork at this company.

This JK person sounds about right. We had a person in our group who collated hundreds of pages of other peoples slides so they could go to other groups and present it all as their own. They arranged meetings with as many folks who might be able to promote them so they could literally read this awful, dry technical document to the group as their own work over a series of weekly meetings. Desperate for a promotion. It probably worked but I did not stick around long enough to watch that train wreck. The best part is the individual had very little understanding about what the pilfered slides meant.

Got a chuckle out of this. JK - must be "Kay Jabel" ;). <--- still using a code name dudes , don't delete. That's the dude who ran that scam slidedeck.
A massive pompous gas bag with little tech knowledge but knew all the buzzwords. So did his boss. And was surrounded by a bunch of sheep.

He copied everyones' slides into his deck, changed colors of boxes and in subsequent meetings tried to accuse the guy that he stole from as the thief. Really talented people stopped talking and then left the company in disgust.
What a duck*d up company.
Avoid this and similar financial companies like he-l.
There should be better things to do in life.

C1 is all about "clicks". Management hangs out together after work and will always cover up for one another. If you're not part of that "click", they treat you like garbage. They have had many lawsuits and rightfully so.

"Others stealing credit for your work happens a lot."

I have see an architect steal everyone's slides and build his super slide deck and present to his leaders as his own work.

Then he tried to paint the other guy as stealing his stuff in a meeting.

Not JK-ing.
Left a clue for who that guy is 😀

My manager is stealing credit for all my work and has no prior experience in his role. He purposely removes my major accomplishments on my review because he takes those accomplishments and puts them into his own accomplishments so he cam get promoted. So not to contradict what I did from what he is doing which is stealing credit for my hard work.

The entire organization from cyber, technology teams, risk management, and every division is incompetent and corrupt.
