Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

What are you doing to improve your skillset?

Those with a good skillset do not have a big problem finding a better opportunity in today's job market. I am among those whose skills have atrophied here, and unfortunately I am becoming aware of that only now. Maybe it is still possible to upgrade skills in a short time enough to be more marketable.

Took training offered in my organization but there is no option to apply new skills. Wasted my time since already forgot what I learned.

I wore all my micro credential badges that I earned at AT&T to my interview at Google.

They offered me a position in custodial services, so they worked for me!

You didn't "pivot"? Does everyone remember when "skills pivot" was the term dujour? Maybe 5 years ago or so. Donovan was big on it. Everyone needed to learn how to code. As if coding was going to be a mandatory skillset to stay on. I still can't code a lick, don't know about you.

I've been taking advantage of training courses offered by my organization. That is one benefit AT&T still has available to employees...take advantage of it!

I am improving my networking skills to include all the contracted services that support AT&T. With all the core technicians about about to get cut along with mobility only using contractors. I am going to follow the work. If you just enjoy being a desk jockey cutting PO’s , then stay with AT&T.

I'm learning how to replace the clutch and pressure plate on my 2003 Tacoma 4x4, so far so good.
