I think work at the office is marginally more beneficial to AT&T, but not enough to offset the cost of real estate. Problem is, they already have leased or own the real estate. So, they're going to want to use real estate that they've already paid for.
Before Covid, they were reducing WFH. I don't know what it is about AT&T, but they just have bad timing. Before Covid, it would have been an ideal time to unload as much office space as they could. Now, there's a glut.

No point going to an office for some. My whole team is scattered across the country. No one at the office I’m assigned to does anything close to what I do, so nothing to collaborate on. I just go in and sit all day on coreference calls or doing what I normally do sitting at home. Totally pointless.
Why are there always trolls on here saying they have no work. Or they say they goof off while wfh. People who wfh know that we work hard and managers are even harder on you. Theee trolls cant wait to get us back in the office. These trolls dont work while in the office or they dont even work for the company
My Group still hasnt been notified of anything. We didnt get an extension letter, nor told that we are going back yet... makes no sense

Managers were brought back in already. Apparently, in an executive meeting, the statement was made by executive leadership, "If you don't need to be in the office to do the job, then why aren't we hiring someone in India to do it?"
It disregarded the fact that most people were effective from home and still would go on fact to face appointments. Also, that some had been working almost full time from home before the pandemic.
The work from home push should have included a pay cut. That way employees could have chosen to stay home at less pay or work in the virus riddled office for full pay.
