Quiet Quitting

Let’s face it, the work ethic has changed with younger generation coming into the workforce (rightfully so).
Us older workers really should not try to pick up the slack and add to our stress level.
I recommend we start “quiet quitting” to reduce our stress level and more align with the new work ethic.
Make your life easier and more enjoyable. I bet most of the newly placed/hired managers won’t even notice if you do it slowly.

I'm done fighting to become 'principal software developer' I've been re-org'd more times than years of service in the last 10 years. 'Senior software developer that shall never be promoted' is my badge of honor. Too many managers come and go and tell me to do this or that to get promoted and then they vanish in 8 months. LOL at the stupidity! I know how to quiet quit and I'm done playing the stupid promotion game.

Quiet quitting is nothing new, we use to call it “mailing it in” and it’s been around forever!!!

RE: Post ID: @1azk+1id8GizP said "After 2 rounds of VBOs (virtual buy outs)"

Just to be perfectly clear its not "virtual" its "voluntary" and it is real and spectacular !!!

Younger people pick up the slack of all the VBO, teach people how to keep up on technology, etc. Please don’t make this an age thing.

Old Soviet saying goes as follows:
“They pretend to pay us and we pretend to work”.

After 2 rounds of VBOs (virtual buy outs allowing Senior level employees to retire early), Fidelity lost a lot of knowledge about their old IBM system COBOL code and business logic.
Most of those who took the VBO were replaced with kids right out of college w/o any experience whatsoever.
Also new hires with Cloud experience have no business logic knowledge, just Cloud knowledge. The VBOs left such a knowledge gap that Fidelity is paying some who left a huge amount of cash to come back and help out part time until they complete their transition off of IBM into AWS cloud. And those didn’t qualify for the VBO are still payed the same and expected to do the work of 3 people.

Bear in mind that anyone left who is older survived several rounds of Darwinistic cyclical layoffs.

In a way, I'm glad for everyone who's still there that they're more worried about the stress of staying than of losing their position.

Ya, seems when we adopted Agile/Scrum it created too many layers of non-productive positions as well as those who justify their existence by scheduling unnecessary meetings.
That all said, those SMEs who stayed are now overburdened with work as well as mentoring all the newbies.
Quiet Quitting sounds good to me.

It depends on how you define older. A lot of the baby boomer types I run into here are incompetent and mistake creating a lot of meetings for productivity. I met only one who knew what he was doing, the rest are a drag and their paranoia of losing their jobs can make some of them unbearable.
