IBM PIP - Last day of employment

This is for those that have real experience or first hand knowledge of IBM PIP. If your last day of PIP is end of quarter and the meeting is held on that day , would they send you a letter that same evening on last day of PIP terminating you if you havent met the terms of the PIP

If its not on the last day of PIP when do you get termination notice . after couple of days (is there a fixed timeline they follow for this procedure). ALso would the notice come through email or through your manager ?

Does HR even talk to you even once before they send the termination notice to see if you are able to show any proof of meeting the terms of the PIP

Maybe not what you want to hear

PIPs are documents to help employees understand areas of performance deficiencies, identify skill gaps and set clear expectations for future conduct. The objectives listed are to be met within a certain period, and failure to do so may result in employment actions (such as termination). In reality PIPs are used to create vacancies so new talent can be brought in.

If you get put on a PIP there are 2 main reasons:
1 - regardless of your performance level, your boss wants you gone and needs the documentation to do so
2 - you are under performing, you've had many conversations with your boss about your poor performance and this is the last resort

When I was with Big Blue I put over a dozen people on PIPs. These individuals were people I wanted to remove from my team for below average performance. The PIP criteria were drafted with HR's involvement and included tasks that were part of that employee's job. They were typically achievable but with highly unrealistic timelines. A few survived by working the system but moved to other groups immediately after. Others did not fare as well and ended up being terminated.

Don't try arguing minutiae with management and HR -- It's a waste of time and won't work. Do yourself a favor, and just make plans to move on and find a better life outside of the hill-ho-e that IBM has become.

Can someone clarify for me the last day of PIP which i opened the thread for . Since many on here have been on PIP i wanted to get the right understanding on how it worked for others ?

AAlso for the person who posted that he met the quote and straight went on another PIP
how long was your first PIP ? when they put you on second how long was the second PIP ?
Did HR get involved at any point in time to review anything ?

I was put on a pip and passed. I passed my quota on GP, revenue and sales of $5.2m.
I went straight onto another pip because my manager didn’t have any ammunition to take to HR! This is proof there is an agenda to replace RAs with fake PIPs.
It’s corporate gaslighting.

there is no hard and fast rule. they can put you anytime they want to cut people .. its Fake PIP in those cases because all they want to save money and avoid paying benefits and severance . just think about it no neutral party no HR that speaks with you .. what kind of organization culture is that. your manager can do anything to you at any time is the culture. I would keep looking and move out. worst corporate culture i have seen

@zpq God have mercy if you just joined IBM recently, looked up a layoff website, and asking that question. Seems like you're already thrown into the lion's den.

Hey Fellow IBMer,

I am relatively new to IBM and I am curious, how long did you not achieve your quota before you went on the PIP (if you are on one)? How long is/was your PIP?

Thanks.
