Thread regarding Seagate Technology Inc. layoffs

It is impossible to feel safe here

I am extremely anxious. Does anyone know who will be the main targets? I know that no one is safe, but is it possible for some positions to be a little safer than others?

Working for Seagate means feeling like sh-t most of the time. But with that said, I've seen more than a few people who where laid off come back in a year or two into different positions. I may have only a few weeks left to work here is how I'm thinking. And I'm pretty much thinking that all the time because the next big layoff is only a few months away at Seagate. Try to get a plan together on what you are going to do. Get everything ready. Of course, don't worry about working to hard for now. You should be so busy preparing you barely have time to sit around and worry too much. For real. Get ready now. You should be up till 11 pm on this stuff. Resume done? Find out what skills are in demand for job openings. Are you on some job post sites? Got a nice outfit for interviews yet? Maybe you can take some training even in the next few weeks and learn something about a particular skill area? Have you been researching what other companies are in the area that hire people like you? Have you been funding an emergency savings account or blowing all your money on Tesla payments? Sell that thing now. Just saying. You should be working and thinking your a-s off so hard you are too exhausted to worry about anything.

As a 20y+ veteran. Make sure you understand the business. Do not just drink the cool-aid from internal sources. Inform yourself about the the company from outside sources, have a healthy interest about the industry, the competition, what the customers are doing, what suppliers are doing. We are a manufacturing company first and foremost. The factories run the show.

I have sat in so many meetings with clueless peers days after the company sharply revised the revenue downwards, acquired companies, did this, did that....unreal how ignorant some folks can be.

Don't be that oblivious.

"is it possible for some positions to be a little safer than others?"

The people who calculate the dividend each qtr are probably safe.
