I am a people leader with 19 years between EMC and Dell and I was just laid off today. Came out of left field. Nobody has asked me for any names from my team. Another peer (individual contributor) was also let go 30 minutes before me. So much for corporate loyalty (as if!).

I was laid off years ago after 15 years - always a top performer. I was a leader for several years and outperformed all my peers. At the end of the day, it was about who you were buddy with. They took an axe to many veteran employees without any regard for performance or experience. They tried to short-change me on the package and I sued them for a fair package. The negotiations with their legal team were based on the giant corp bullying you and pressuring you financially because they didn't want to set a precedence. They even admitted that you can get X dollars but it will cost you Y dollars and months to fight it, so we are offering you X-Y-N. All was in bad faith. Years later I applied for a couple of jobs I was well qualified for. Even though they could not find a candidate for months they did not even reply. I suspect there is some internal blacklist at HR for those who have lawyered up before. At this point, I tell everyone around me not to buy a Dell. I rather support a company that is more ethical, less political and actually cares about its employees and customers.
Over the past week I have seen about a dozen that I know laid off. Average age over 50, average tenure 15years plus. No performance problems or ethics violations. It is hard not to think this was the plan. If you know of anyone who was notified, please give them a boost of support.

not to be rude but, you've been here for 19 years and likely have seen dozens of people you work with and hundreds of fellow team members laid off over the years and you thought corporate loyalty was a thing?
