Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Just joined IFS but...

New hire. Just joined IFS. G10. There is literally no work to do. It is a made up role. Honestly disappointed and actually terrified that I made the wrong call joining Intel and especially IFS. They are just a bunch of people strategizing. Nobody really knows how a real foundry operates. There are no customers. It is a power point factory. It should be called IPS - Intel PowerPoint Services. I will likely leave to rejoin my previous employer. Are there others like me?

There is a reason Grade 10 is given the title PE. No - not Principal Engineer, but Powerpoint Engineer! The other meaning of PE at Intel = Political Engineer. As others have noted, the lower grades do the 'real' work.

Sorry you should know before you join Intel, G10 in Intel could only do PPTs plus fully booked with meetings every day, the real work are done by our lower level ppls.

are you a G10 URM surrounded by other G10 URMs in a group called something like "People Systems" or "Media Comms"?

If you want to go back to your previous employer... You need to make them think it is their idea.

Whether it be sprucing up your LinkedIn resume to tailor it to specific opportunities that likely exist, and hope that a recruiter is aggressive enough to suggest you come back..

Or more ideally you still have friends there that you have the opportunity to engage with, and without looking like you're wanting to come back, let it slip that your current role is not challenging. Perhaps they will seek out something for you and do the leg work to get management on board with trying to recruit you back.

Who was your previous employer? They will probably have a hiring freeze soon and companies usually don't take back ex-employees even if the position is still open and your ex-manager want you because HR will stop you due to company policy. Why? Because they don't want other employees to think this is a common practice for all employees that leave and want to come back. The company can get sued by other ex-employees.
The best thing to do is start looking for a job outside of Intel. Intel is not doing well at all. Look at the Q2 earnings. There is something majorly wrong with management. They need a newer, younger, and more exciting management team. Even if they get more money from the tax payers (gov't), they are just going to waste it away. They need a new CEO that pushes to achieve company goals and can expand chip manufacturing capabilities faster then China (or TSMC).
