Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

SCO SUPPORT STAFF

Offshore employees have been hired and are being trained to work support staff positions. But, the support staff is being told there will be no RIF and these positions are just to fill in where needed. Anyone know the truth here?

For Legal there are a lot of Paralegal support jobs being given to Allstate India on a trial basis. Some Admin. work is already there. Allstate Legal has been told no support staff layoffs but any retirements, voluntary terminations will not be replaced. Once National General merges with NY Legal in early 2023 we’ll see whether this position changes.

Which scenario is cheaper? The company hiring cheaper workers to lighten the load of more expensive workers, who are all kept at their existing costs? Or replacing a significant amount of expensive workers with the cheaper workers? I think they're trying to give the impression that cheaper workers will replace expensive workers who retire or quit. But they did not expressly state this, and they have an incentive to quickly transition. They also have an incentive to keep a RIF under wraps until their replacement workforce is ready to go, otherwise they risk being understaffed. Maybe if enough support staff leave, because their work is being compounded from the hiring freeze, they will not have to do a RIF, but who knows what the numbers are there. I do not have insider information, I'm just providing perspective.

This is their plan. Walk it slow, don’t insight panic, and in a couple years …Voilà !!! these non customer facing phone roles are in India or done by self service. AI is on the way learning more every day in how to handle every aspect of claims and soon they will be taking over ALL claims processes. Should be about 3 years max. Customer service jobs in the USA were fun while they lasted.
